it was ok
bookshelves: fiction

I found this to be mundane.

Aside from being a parody of “Adam and Eve Bible version I couldn’t really see what the purpose was. Maybe, back in the day, this was considered controversial. Having grown-up with Monty Python and “Life of Brian, Twain’s writing is rather meek. Eve is a caricature female caring, talkative, loving flowers, animals Adam is a knucklehead.

It’s a short book, otherwise I would not have completed it.

Petra nearly in Melbourne I liked the first half of the book, the second not so much.

Mikey B. I do have problems with fiction (in not liking some of what I read). I guess I was expecting something hard-hitting, which it wasn't.

I think it was meant as simple comedic entertainment.

I loved the book--am a Mark Twain fan--but yes, I noticed the stereotypical portrayals too (most especially in how Eve is a crier who pleads with Adam, and Adam is exasperated by her emotions and persistence). As much as I love Twain, I think he viewed women and men in black-and-white terms, with women the inferior sex.

How were the illustrations in this version? I loved mine and have been surprised to see they vary from edition to edition, with some really ugly. Side note: Eve has a belly button in some of my book's illustrations.

Mikey B. Unfortunately there were no illustrations in my book - that could have helped!

Oh, really?! I thought all the editions had them. They do enhance.
