Kathryn Did you finish this as COVID was breaking, Edgarr??? I don't know how you did it, if so! I live in Queensland, Australia, and we haven't had community transmission for a couple of months, so I feel OK reading this, but I probably wouldn't have been wanting to read this in March this year!

Edgarr Alien Pooh No Kathryn I just added it back in March. I read it some years ago so Captain Tripps (COVID) was not an issue. Imagine me reading it this year - I live in Melbourne!!

Kathryn Ah, I see!! Yeah - it would be a bit too close to the bone for most Melburnians at the moment, I think!! However it does make me think COVID's actually a better option than Stephen King's imaginary virus - (view spoiler)

Edgarr Alien Pooh No spoilers but there are no toilet paper fights in Woolworths I am afraid

Kathryn Ah well, the book is quite long enough already anyway, without writing in extra toilet paper fight scenes!! He's released an uncut version!! 1348 pages!! As if it wasn't long enough already at 1000+!!

Edgarr Alien Pooh Yeah I read the uncut version. Originally publisher wanted those pages cut because they couldn't securely bind the whole thing

Kathryn I know...and it must have been heart-breaking to do, but 1000+ pages is already long enough to try my patience!! But it is reading easily, and I'm not really noticing the pages go by!

Edgarr Alien Pooh It is still one of my favourite books. I hope the new mini series does it justice

Kathryn Oh - there's a mini-series coming? But if I love the book, I probably won't want to watch the mini-series!

Edgarr Alien Pooh Yep there is ..... the previous mini series of The Stand was NOT good. i am the same, usually a good book means I hate the movie. Most of King's works have been poor movies with the exception of a few...... Shawshank Redemption is a favourite

Kathryn I’ve enjoyed Stand By Me, The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile, but I read all of them before I realised they were books/short stories. I’ve since read Different Seasons, with the Stand By Me and Shawshank Redemption short stories, but don’t really remember the written stories (I think I liked the movies better...?). I haven’t read The Green Mile. Do you remember when the Under The Dome mini-series was on? I didn’t watch it, because it was Stephen King (= horror in my mind, at that point), but I did read the blurb (and it’s another massive book!) and thought it sounded interesting... One of these days!

Edgarr Alien Pooh Yeah green mile and the body were good too. Under the dome was a good book, a bit different to the series

Schannon Mccloud I'm tired boss...dog tired

Alan Aspinall I always felt the first part of the book was the best, after the super flu wiped out most of the world I found it less intreasting.
