it was amazing

Superb. I will think about this for a day or two. Parental love and marriage of contrary focused minds- I don’t know which is better comprised here. Stratford gem.

3 years later: I still remember this book. It really hit home for me.

Diane Barnes I'm impressed. You don't give many 5's. I loved it too.

Kelli Love this author!

Jeanette Others have said it better on this one. Stunning in more than 5 categories.

Ingrid Thought you'd say that :)

Jeanette Laurie, I didn't even know there was a movie. You know, I don't think I will see it. Because this one is soldered in my mind. Truly. It left an impression, and I don't want to alter that cognition.

After your kids age and you see the stresses that they are being put through- this kind of Mother's love is SO felt to every cell in the body- just as posited in this book. It was not only for Hamnet either.

Perhaps there are women who see adult children as gone and as such totally out of their current mind-stream, emotions, thoughts etc. But for some reason, I am beginning to believe that especially if you have your children young- it never, ever does. And the less you see them physically, the more you may be feeling the mental and emotional connections.

Hamnet is one of the few books for which that entire worldview and day to day cognition of mother is represented for what it can entrench. So I will leave it at that and not put actors between us.

I have "kids" of 52, 50, 40 and grown grandkids for which this last year has used up their last nerves and some of their largest strengths. Hopefully better times will grace them.

Jeanette Elyse, Amen indeed. This book was surely filled with the partial content of a prayer. That there be something better.

Jeanette I'm still thinking about this book and may not approach any other reaction or review proper. It's too much a gem to slant any of its setting.

A lady was browsing in the library and I could tell from the books she had she was a paperback romance reader with very light chick lit. on the side- and I told her about Hamnet and she took it. It's a book that even women who are not mothers may love. Because the core is about living in your own cognition and not your partner's. Sometimes it isn't even possible to approach that perception or connection between "world" understanding to the common "reality"which both are experiencing. It wasn't here.

Susan I've got it on hold at my elibrary. Can't wait for my turn.

Jeanette You will love it, Susan.

Jeanette Here it is 2 months and many books later but I am still thinking of this one.

Jeanette Later. Still thinking of this book. For me it was probably the best book I read in 2020.

Jeanette Someone brought this up today and I read all the comments. Never knowing what I had coming. My oldest son had a brain aneurysm bleed/burst on Sept. 11, 2023. His life was saved by Univ. of Chicago Hospital. After months - I have news of a very Merry Christmas. He was just recently cleared for completely normal living after 2nd surgery- no exceptions to activity. Blessed indeed.

Janette Walters Oh Jeanette…A merry Christmas for you indeed! This news about your son brings such joy to this mother’s heart! And I will check Hamnet out. Blessed Christmas to you and yours ❤️

Jeanette Thank you. And to all of yours. And your world.

One of my oldest friends had 1/2 of Kentucky praying non-stop. He was 54. 55 years old now.
