really liked it

This is my third Taylor Jenkins Reid novel in as many months, and I think her books do for me in adulthood what Sarah Dessen's work did for me as a teenager: They give me a sense of comfort and safety. Her writing is simple, beautiful, and easy to follow; her lessons are universal and poignant; and her characters are lovable (but sometimes a liiiiittle too similar to one another). Every time I read one of Jenkins Reid's novels though, I walk away feeling like I was in a cocoon of warmth and feelings.

Looking back, it's not necessarily surprising that I loved One True Loves, and not just because of the Sarah Dessen connection. One of the most impactful shows on my life was How I Met Your Mother, and putting aside its problematic elements and disastrous finale (don't fight me on this, you'll lose), its main through-line is that love doesn't have to last forever to be meaningful, and it comes in all different forms and changes over time. We become who we become, and some people are better to suited to who we are now than others.

If you're looking for writing where you can sit with it for a bit, I absolutely recommend this book.
