The Dry (Aaron Falk, #1)

Man, I just can't concentrate these days, as I'm sure most people have the same issue. I really wanted to love this one. But....
Aaron Falk returns to his hometown after the suicide of his friend Luke, after murdering his family. Luke's father just doesn't believe he could do something like this, so he asks Aaron, now in law enforcement, to look into it. But Aaron is facing his own demons, being accused of murdering a young high school girls years ago while he was still in school himself. He starts to investigate Luke and what happened all while facing harsh interactions with the locals.
I read The Lost Man by Jane Harper and really enjoyed it. I love those slow moving stories that build but really focus on character development. I loved the dry (haha) Australian outback, the audio narration, and I couldn't wait for another read of this authors. So I was excited when I got this one from my library. I jumped right in. The Dry follows the same formula, slow moving story, character development by a number of main characters and townsfolk, same audio narrator, but it was a chore for me to finish. I think in these difficult times it's hard to focus. A slow burn of a story was probably not a good choice. It picked up at the very end and I liked how it was all wrapped up. I just wished I read this at a different time. I certainly plan to read more from this author and hopefully can focus.

EXACTLY! I will not stop, I might change books every day, but I'll keep doing it. Glad you feel the same Sonja. Hopefully you are enjoying your fluffy easy reads.

Thanks Lucy! Me too. I do concentrate at least when I come to ŷ and read others reviews. I just need to visit more these days.

Thanks Carol! Yeah, I pushed though. But there have been so many more I just turned off. Sorry to hear that you are going through the same thing. Short stories sounds great. Hope you found some good ones.

Thanks Cheri! Sorry you are also struggling. I do think had I read this at some other time I would have enjoyed it much more. I hope that you do find something to read to and take your mind off of things.

Thanks Susanne! I do think it really had to do with a lack of focus on my part.

I did enjoy this one but it's definitely not a fast-paced book for sure. Maybe a different time it would have been a different reaction. You aren't alone 💖

Sorry you are facing the same issue Jan. It's tough to concentrate and focus on reading. I'm glad that you liked this one. I do think had I been able to focus I would have liked this one better.

Sorry to hear you are dealing with the same Victoria. Glad you liked your Greg Iles book - I keep ordering his books from my library and returning unread. I really need to fix this.

I'm in on the struggling to concentrate. Originally thought that the only positive of COVID19 would be more reading time

Thanks Edgarr Alien! Sorry to hear you are also struggling. I thought the same thing too, less work more reading time. Work is crazy busy and when I can read, I can't concentrate. Hope you find something good to read.
