it was amazing

mr. rochester walked so every other tall, dark, handsome, and broody male character could run. and thats the that on that.

i really dont have much else to add that hasnt already been said about this book, considering its been around for 150+ years. but i will admit how impressed i am with how modern this story feels. i think thats a key factor in why i enjoyed this so much - because it doesnt feel like a classic to me.

not only is the writing very accessible and incredibly easy to read, which i dont find to the case for most books written during this time period, but the dialogue between characters is very forward thinking. the conversations between jane and mr rochester are very much similar to conversations that are happening today. i really admire how bronte incorporates feminist ideals into this story. and i honestly didnt expect the low-key thriller vibes present in some parts, so that was fun.

overall, this is a great story. 10/10 would recommend.

✨ This book is one of my all time favorites. I'm so glad you loved it ❤️.

Betsy I studied it. to death. so sadly I don't agree with you on this one jessica :( But I'm so happy you found such joy and love in his dastardliness haha!

jessica sue - yay! so happy its one of your faves! <3

betsy - awww. im so sorry to hear that. :( did you not enjoy it because you had to analyse it and couldnt read it for entertainment, or was there something that you found in your studies that made you not enjoy it?

EsraE I want to re-read it now 😊

Hannah I def need to re-read this. If you enjoyed Jane Eyre, have you read The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Anne Bronte?

Sara This literally sounds like what I was trying to say in far less words haha. Great review as always!

Betsy I think the overanalysation definitely didn't help but I couldn't understand nor get behind their romance (massive shoulder shrug)... I may have to read it again to see if my reaction has changed as now I love Gothic romance, but there was something very twisted and too Christian about the resolution to the story. This is common for books of that era, even Tess by Thomas Hardy who was radical still prescribed and rebelled against those religious norms of the day.

jessica hannah - i havent. this is my first book by one of the bronte sisters, but im definitely willing to pick up others!

sara - hahaha. dont worry - i feel the exact same with other peoples reviews. :P really glad you loved this one, too!

betsy - yeah, i can see how the romance isnt convincing to some readers. for me, i was hooked when jane said 'he made me love him without looking at me.' and i was a goner. i could just really relate with that. but thats an interesting perspective of the writing and the time period! thank you so much for sharing that insight!! :)

j - aww. im sorry this wasnt quite as easy of a read for you. thats how i feel with nearly all classics, so i was surprised i found this one easy.

roel - yay! so happy to hear that!

jessica betsy - yeah, i definitely recommend reading it for entertainment purposes only. i agree that any sort to analysis can really change a readers perspective of the story, so i think you may enjoy it more another time around! :D

It is nuts to me that It was written in the 1800's. Jane is a wonderful role model for girls TODAY, I feel. She always stays true to herself. That seems like such a simple thing when said, but in reality, so brave.
