Sophy is one of my favorite Heyer characters, and I practically know this book by heart, having reread it frequently since I was a teenager.

I had this discussion with friends recently. There is a Jewish character in The Grand Sophy who is portrayed in a very stereotypical way. I and those who had read the book felt that while unfortunate it did not detract from our love of the book. Others feel differently. I think Heyer was a product of her time and I do not let this spoil the book for me. If you read it, let me know what you think.
My review for the Classics Circuit
Constance, this book made some waves in the Jewish community.. I just read a review about it on Amazon.. A reviewer was very upset about a derogeratory comment made regarding Jews. Something about it being post Holocaust made it worse.. but I bet CLM can tell us more.
