it was amazing

In spite of all the hype about this book, I was reluctant to read a fictional story about Shakespeare and why he wrote Hamlet. I wasn't drawn into the story right away. It may have been because it was written in the third person, but it was more likely because I was with my daughter, son-in-law and young grandson whom I had not seen for over two years due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Maggie O'Farrell's beautiful, descriptive writing brings the characters to life and makes it exceptional easy to visualize this story set in 1500's England.
Agnes or 'Anne' Hathaway was my favourite. She was true to herself, a loving and kind mother, and very close to nature.

I highly recommend this book to all who are interested in life in England in the 1500's, or want to read a great story.
