The Duke Who Knew Too Much (Heart of Enquiry, #1)

3.5 Stars
Broody Alaric McLeod, Duke of Strathaven tricked once by a so-called innocent is more than wary of Emma Kent, a women who accuses him of a crime he did not commit. Emma is an independent country miss who like her brother believes in justice, and she is determined to be a female investigator, if only she can persuade her brother.
When Emma realises she is wrong about the Duke of Strathaven she is determined to right her wrong and prove his innocence. Alaric is surprised and deep down happy to hear a women admit she was wrong, but he is not pleased with the idea of Emma investigating his case, but Emma is resolute. Initially Alaric is less than delighted by the desire that rushes through his blood each time Emma is near, until he finally gives in, but his past still impacts his present and Emma will need to fight for their HEA.
Some nice steam, smut in this, although not going to lie there were small moments where the wording/phrasing had me unintentionally laughing a tad when I shouldn't have been. I liked the heat between Alaric and Emma, although I do wish there had been a smidge more relationship development. I enjoyed the fact that Emma whilst a virgin, wasn't positioned as a simpering miss.
One thing I truly disliked (view spoiler)
Again the Kent family were a good addition to each scene they popped up in.
The scene with Alaric's (view spoiler)
