did not like it

*yawn* I'm really sad I wasted my time on this romance that was completely overhyped, in my opinion.

I can't really describe what turned me off from this story, but I just could not get into January and Augustus' budding relationship as they both make a bet and write stories that are out of their comfort zone but ended up being stories that match the same structure as their previously published books. The stories they wrote took up a decent chunk of the plotline, in terms of research, and I just could not begin to care about their WIP or Augustus' out-there cult book.

I also just did not feel connected to January's past relationship with a seemingly perfect man named Jacques who seemed like a placement character whose existence is for the purpose of making January seem like a well-rounded character with a ~dark past~. I wish I could have connected to her character more, but there just was something missing that I can't put my finger on.

I don't know. The romance wasn't engaging, the characters' backstories didn't interest me, and after reading such amazing romances, I have higher standards for romances, and this was not it for me.

Suaad (I just want a cat) I agree. For me the chemistry between January and Augustus was non-existent that made me not interested in the book from the start

Joanna De La Paz R I know! I hated both of them. I'm usually into romance stories, but man this one sucked.

Vanessa I didn’t love it either. I got through the first 109 pages and found it to be a chore to read anymore of it.

Abigail Garrett What I think was missing was personality. The characters had pasts but that didn’t give them much texture everything was just blah. I was thinking “ugh, Augustus is so boring I would never want to date him! Lol. I wish the author would have been more intentional about developing the characters and not just their physical chemistry.

Patrice Antczak Totally agree. Did not love it either, it was booorrrriiing! It reminded me of watching a Hallmark movie while doing other things around the house... or to take a nap to. Zzzz.

Dorris Chipfupa I "dnfed" it.

Emily Thank you!! I just started this and was considering DNFing, think I might have to.

Mcspear Didn’t like it either. These characters needed therapy not “love. Also one of those stories where if they just discussed their problems they would have been solved.

Diane I agree! I found the characters to be incredibly shallow with limited character development. I don’t get what the hype is about this book.

Thalia Nagda Exactly my thoughts!

Autumn I was disappointed. DNF at 250 pages.

Berfu Totally agreed! I was more annoyed with this book than anything. January’s thoughts and reactions to situations frustrated me to no end. Disappointed to say the least with this read. I really don’t see what all the fuss was about.

Erika I agree. January especially felt very flat and boring to me. Literally no personality which made large chunks of her narration boring.

Kathy Harter Olivanti It was difficult for January to develop as a character, as she spent almost the whole book crying about something. I found her whining, annoying and weak

Sradbill Agreed

LV Gray The writer could have done so much more with the characters and plot..the premise was so damn interesting. That s what made me want to read this in the first place

Lauren Same here. I DNF. I didn’t really like the characters.

Sara Mineur I came to part 7 of 29 of this and I just can't continue this long line of cliches.

message 19: by Amber (new) - rated it 1 star

Amber I agree! I still have yet to finish this one the characters weren’t all that interesting honestly. I got so bored when reading this book to not even finish it.

message 20: by cyda (new) - rated it 2 stars

cyda ugh you took the words right out of my mouth. This is probably one of the most boring uninteresting romcom book I’ve read. Every time I open the book to try and finish it, it feels like a job. The whole story is just not it and I don’t get it why it’s soo overhyped
