This is about expecting a baby. Arthur's parents tell him there's going to be a new baby and so the book is what to expect when a new baby comes. I've read this same story from the Berenstain Bears and Little Monster. It's a staple trope.

Dianna This is my favorite new baby book because there's one page where the mom has pickles in her ice cream sundae. :)

Dianna, I'm so glad you pointed this out. I prefer having the book in hand, but I got this off Openlibrary, so I could only see it onscreen and I missed that detail. That is so great, I love it. Funny!

I was required to read this many times to my children and it took me several read-throughs to notice! I don't know about you, but sometimes when I'm reading a book aloud, I don't notice the pictures quite as much.

Dianna, sometimes that's true. It's easy to miss things as the reader. When my niece was young and I started reading to her, she would scan each page with her eyes. She did it for each page and I wondered if she was memorizing the page like a photographic memory. It was cute, but she stopped doing that as she got older.
