it was amazing
bookshelves: poetry

This book was owned by my late uncle, passed on to my late brother and passed on to me. Published in 1900, it is a treasure in our family and I have read it too many times to count. But that was before I became a GR member....so it will show up as my first read. I picked it up yesterday and read it one more time and reacted to it as I did the first time. Fascinated and amazed. It is such a joy.

David Jill, when I was in Peace Corps training at Utah State, an Iranian professor from U. Utah, lectured on Persian culture. He told us that Omar Khayyam in Iran was not considered the greatest poet or Sufi. Saadi and Hafez were, among others, actually better in comparison. He said that acutally Fitzgerald's translation of Khayyam into English was the real masterpiece. (less)

Joe Krakovsky The history of this in your family sounds pretty neat.

Jill Hutchinson We have several books that have been passed along the generations of my family. We have always been a family that treasures our books.

Parmida R. A. I'm happy you liked it, Jill! I just read it recently, and it is fascinating indeed. :)
