it was amazing
bookshelves: 2020-read, american-author, american-novel, crime-novel, drama, fiction, mystery, suspense, thriller

It's just one of those things. I love this novel. Twice read, once watched, and now once listened to on audio. Don't ask me what the attraction is. I wish I knew.

Brilliant suspense thriller.

David Putnam I think this is his second best book, A Time to Kill takes first place.

Elizabeth7781 I agree! I was in awe when I finished (devoured) this book. Worthy of a second read.

Carol Agree too. Loved movie. Hope to get to the novel someday,

Diane Barnes We all have those books, for whatever reason.

David Putnam There is a story about Grisham (Two, really). One is that when he sold A Time to Kill, he got in his van and drove up the eastern seaboard from the south where he lives stopping at every bookstore. He bought every copy of his book A Time to Kill that he could find. This showed a false sense of the market and when he went to sell his second book The Firm he got a bigger advance. This is why a first edition of A Time to Kill is so rare.

d.

Jessica Henry I loved this book too. It is a compelling legal thriller that is a little outside what we'd imagine and it has a great main character!

David Putnam I loved the book as well. I thought the ending didn't match the rest of the book. It kind took a hard left into sensationalism--a real shift in tone. Still a great read.

Bonnye Reed The first John Grisham I read back in the day. I still consider The Painted House my absolute favorite of his works, however. And A Time to Kill. It was rejected about a hundred times before it found a publisher. So glad he persevered~!

David Putnam Haven't read Painted house but I'm going to give it a go now. Just ordered it. Thanks.

I can't remember if I've read it. Will have to revisit. Thanks, David.

Hahahaha, you might be right, Swaroop! :-))))

It's one of those books that keeps reminding me it's there. On my book shelf. Magic, right!

The novel is worth it. Promise :-)

I cannot get myself so far to give some books away. They just won't allow it. Or perhaps it's a case of feeling like a traitor to get rid of really best friends, Diane. So silly, really. Oi!

Wow, that's interesting! Great idea too. lololol.

We'll have to check, but it was probably the first of its kind too.

Seems like I have two more John Grishams to read now. Thanks, Bonnye.
