** spoiler alert ** The story captivated me from beginning to end and I thought it was very well written in a smooth, easy-(and fast)-to read format. But, I want...need...expect my romance books to have happily every afters (HEAs) and this one did not. It bothered me that Adrienne did not go on with her life, that she made decisions for herself based on the lives of her kids (that were not young) and she paid for those decisions in later years when she was left alone. Everyone is entitled to have a life of their own. She would expect that of her kids (and did) and her father (certainly) expected that of her.

What other options did she have? She was committed to her father's care; however, Paul's plans could have shifted and they could have both gone to Ecuador or waited until Mark found himself and returned... or a slew of other alternatives besides what ensued. Depressing.

Sad face from This Reader.

Tammy Glad you like them, Kathrynn. =) I try to keep a stockpile of those bookmarkers now.

I can't wait to read your review on this one. I probably won't go see the movie (too many kid movies in the theater right now), but I have been eye-balling this book for awhile.

Tammy How sad! It sounds like a true life story for my great uncle - he and the woman he loved for nearly 30 years were never able to marry because she had to care for her elderly father. Her father forbid her to marry my uncle (and back in those days women did what they were told). When my great uncle died just a few years ago, he left his entire estate to his sweetheart. I may have to read this one after all ...

Kathrynn Oh, that is terrible, Tammy. I can't imagine not doing what your heart tells you to do in life. Very sad. Thank you for sharing that.

Brenda, this was the first book I read by Mr. Sparks. I liked The Notebook (movie) and did not like A Message in a Bottle (movie). I won't read anymore by him and I doubt I'll see the Nights movie, either. May catch it when it comes on HBO or something, if I'm not reading anything good (LOL) and have absolutely nothing else to do...
