you know the classic question ‘if you were stranded on a deserted island, which book(s) would you want to have? well, TCOMC is my answer. without a doubt.

not only would the 1,000+ pages (which are full of the most masterfully crafted and deceptively clever plotlines known to humanity) provide hours upon hours of entertainment, but it would also be a massive inspiration to search for hidden treasure.

i am living for a reality where i sit on my hoard of wealth, plan the ultimate revenge against my enemies, and wait to be rescued (as if my strandedness was my decision all along). because thats the kind of self-confidence edmond would want for me (followed by the inevitable self-actualisation that forgiveness, patience, and hope are the best qualities a person can have).

this story is definitely in my top five favourite books of all time, but edmond dantés is the best character i have ever read. i can think of no other character who i have connect to, bonded with, or empathised for more. he will always have special place in my heart and on my bookshelf. <3

Francesca I couldn't get through this, its just so long :( I will definitely pick it up again one day because I LOVE The Three Musketeers, but I might need to clear my schedule for it lol

Olivia One of my all time favourites as well.

Read it!! 🤣😂

Ruthie I liked the first third and the last third. The middle was too slow for me. I know the middle parts had purpose but it was still hard for me to get through. I like a faster pace. But glad you like it!!

jessica ross - yay! im so happy to hear that!!

kasey - it should be on everyones 'favourite books' list! :P

francesca - aww. im sorry. the first time i read this, i read the abridged version (its about half the length of the original) and i still loved the story. so if the length is too much for you, definitely try the abridged version.

olivia - i love that you love this. hehe.

raymond - hahaha. those italian bandits will getcha.

melissa - yay! so happy to hear that! :)

fran - its a wonderful novel so i hope you get a chance to read it one day!

ruthie - i completely agree that the first and last thirds are the best/most entertaining sections of the novel, but im sad that this was still hard for you to get through overall. :(

Amin Eatemad It might not sound reasonable but I'm really afraid to start books with these number of pages. I've never read books this long, and I really don't like to add it to my abandoned-books shelf.

jessica i totally get it - that kind of length is intimidating. if the story sounds interesting to you, then i highly recommend trying the abridged version - its half the length. thats where i started and i was immediately hooked!

Rochelle ✿ One day I want to have the patience to read a book as long as this

Cat Carstairs Yes!!! I love this story!

Liberty It would also make great tinder. On a desert island. Just sayin'

Gregorio I partially agree with you. I don't think revenge is exclusively the common thread of the novel. Rather, the final expression of "Waiting and trusting" is the central core of the narrative. Revenge (justice for Dantés) was born precisely when he learned of the evolution of the people who had caused him personal harm and only when he learned that the harm had been premeditated, without any intention of correcting its disastrous consequences. And this is so because the first thing he does when he regains his freedom is to trust that his unworthy prison companion had confided to him not only a great secret but also his willingness to share with him its benefits if they finally managed to put an end to his captivity.
