Damn what a thrill
I have never read a murder mystery thriller like this. This shook me up.
At the start, this book was a little confusing and slow paced because there are so many POVs, so it was a bit hard to understand it in the start. But Foley really made it easy to follow along with the description and the name of the characters at the start of every chapter. So once I got the hang of it and the story really started going, i was hooked.
The best part about this book is the remote, isolated and dark setting. I could perfectly imagine the spooky island with its rocky cliffs, the cave and the sea. The eerie building called The Foly, the only building standing on the island. creepy!

The book is more focused on the characters and their past instead of the plot. Though hardly any character is likable. Some seem selfish and loathsome, and others are going through something terrible. Everyone has a secret. Their storylines are pretty engrossing, revealing a bit more about the characters or their past in every chapter. Makes you guess who did the murder and who got murdered throughout the book. Everytime I thought I figured out the murderer, something would happen in the next chapter that would prove me totally wrong. I loved it that it was so unpredictable, my every guess was proven wrong. There were so many mind-blowing plot twists towards the end that i never in a million years saw coming.
I loved that the chapters were short and always thrilling. Though the story takes place within two days. The story jumps back and forth between the present and the day before. But it never messes with the flow of the story. It was so captivating. It was hard to put the book down. Foley did a great job in carrying out the classic whodunnit mystery plot with such compelling writing.
The only thing i didn't like that much was the ending though. The epilogue was pretty brief. I would have loved to see how every character would cope with everything that happened. I didn't get the closure that I needed from this story.
But overall this was a really entertaining, addictive and thrilling story. I absolutely loved it and now want to read more books with this genre. I hope i find some as good as this one. I recommend it highly.
