Amie Kaufman Oh, you are so brave! Unwind scarred me for life! Sometimes I just stop what I'm doing and think about that book, and freak out a little.

Wendy Darling I read UNWIND yesterday on the plane coming back to the States, with only the overhead spotlight shining down on me in the dark cabin. It was a brutal experience, but so good that I had to start the sequel as soon as I got home!

message 3: by Amie (new)

Amie Kaufman Okay, at our LA meet up we will talk about this book. I don't want to flail here in case I spoil anyone, but I have no doubt you know which scene gives me nightmares!

Wendy Darling Omg, the scene with Roland? (view spoiler) (I can't wait until 2013 to discuss, hah.)

People kept telling me I had to read UNWIND and I'm kicking myself that I didn't do it before.

Also, I'm still on Aussie time, in case you're wondering why I'm answering you at 3 o'clock in the morning.

message 5: by Amie (new)

Amie Kaufman Sooooooo much trauma from that scene. I just, I don't even. It obviously connected with something inside me, because I flipped out way beyond anyone else's reaction. In fact, I'm comfort eating right now, just thinking about it! (Your timezone thing is clearly an indicator you should be back here.)

Wendy Darling It's kind of like that scene in (view spoiler) I clutched my blankie as I read the Unwind scene last night.

And yes, I wish I were still there. *sigh* I already regret not having loaded up on certain cookies and eyed my husband balefully as he ate THREE whole Mint Slices after dinner. There are rumors that you can buy them here, though. He'd better hope they're true.

message 7: by Amie (new)

Amie Kaufman It is blankie-clutching territory. I want to send Shusterman my therapy bill. And possibly a personal trainer, with all this comfort eating.

You can get Tim Tams at a place called... World Foods? Is that a place? So possibly Mint Slices there. Or wail, and I'll shove some in my suitcase and ship them once I'm in the US.

Wendy Darling I met Mr. Shusterman at ALA this year, he was extremely pleasant but very sweaty--I wonder if he'd had numerous therapy bills thrust upon him that day! If only I'd read the book already so I could have appreciated the encounter more.

Yes, rumor has it World Market has them, will have to check it out. Nice to have a back-up Tim Tams dealer, though. :D And you know who to call if you need Reeses Peanut Butter cups!

Donna I can't wait to get my hands on a copy of this. I don't know if I'll wait for the audio though because the audio of Unwind in THAT particular scene was traumatic. I still think about it and when anyone asks me about the scariest thing I've read, that is ALWAYS one scene I mention.

Wendy Darling I can only imagine how terrifying that scene must have been with someone reading it to you, Donna! Oh, my. :( It was hard enough to make myself keep reading.

I am very grateful I'm able to read this now, Liz. And yes, just a few more days before it's out! :)

✿ℎazℯℓ - thℯ ℛock Cℎick ℱairy✿ Ohmy, you're finished! I am very excited about this book and I'm happy that you liked it, Ms. Wendy. ;) Looking forward to your comments!

Keith Chawgo Thanks for your comments on this - this will now be my next series to read.

Wendy Darling Yeah, it took me just over two days to read both books, Hazel. I liked UNWIND better, but this was still awesome, and leaps and bounds better than most YA.

Keith, this series is so, so good. I am really glad you're going to read it next!

message 14: by Choco (new)

Choco Ohh! I didn't know this was coming out! Looking forward to your review :)

Wendy Darling Not only is it coming out, it is a trilogy, Choco! Plus there's a short story, too. :)

Keith Chawgo I just bought it - as soon as I am done with Cover, I'll be delving into this. Thanks again.

Ha! I must've been living under a rock..

Angela I'm still waiting for my library to get this in. Doesn't look like they are taking my new stock recommendations seriously so will have to buy it.

Wendy Darling Excellent! I look forward to seeing what you think of it, Keith.

I think this book's release date took a lot of people by surprise, Choco. The first book came out in 2007 and I don't think most people realized it was going to be a trilogy, nor that it was coming out this year. That's just judging by the many "omg, really??" type reactions I'm seeing on GoodReads, though!

This comes out next week, Angela, so maybe they'll get it in? If not, it's totally worth owning, though. I need to get myself a copy of the first book in pb for my shelf.

Angela Ah, that makes more sense, thank you Wendy. I've been waiting for it to come out for so long I just assumed it was already released!

Kaitlyn Ooh, you're so lucky to have read UnWholly before it released! I loved Unwind and I can't wait to read UnWholly! Glad to hear that you liked it.

Wendy Darling No problem! Hope you get to read it soon, one way or another.

And it's very, very good Kaitlyn! I don't think fans of the first book will be disappointed.

That's great! I was so excited when I found out he was writing a second book, so I'm happy to know that it's good.

Wan awesome!

message 32: by Melissa (new) - added it

Melissa Brutal? Now I'm scared. I made it through Unwind barely holding on to my sanity. It was so intense ... awesome, but intense. I haven't decided if my nerves could handle a second book in this series. But I want to see how things turn out in this world, so I'm sure I'll grab this one. I do love ya books that make me think about larger issues. :)

message 33: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Nice!!

Cassie I've been dying to read this one since I heard it was announced! The back cover blurb sounds epic, and I'm glad to see you think it delivered. It's in processing at my library, so it should be in my hands soon. :)

Lorrie I can't wait to read this, especially after seeing you gave it 4.5 stars!!

Erika :O you read this, lucky girl!

message 37: by Kiki (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kiki YOU'VE ALREADY

YOU'VE READ

WHY HAVEN'T I

I'M SO

I HAVEN'T

I CAN'T

Okay, I think I need to take a breath and calm down.

Wendy Darling It is a fantastic sequel, everybody--well thought-out, exciting, with deeper conspiracies than even before. I'm really glad you guys don't have to wait much longer for it! :) I am very lucky indeed, and very grateful to have had the chance to get it.

Melissa, I felt that way too. I read the first book within a matter of hours the day before I read this one and I'm already clamoring for more! And yes, I read plenty of fluff but it's nice to also read books with deeper meaning and issues behind them, too. Every once in awhile. ;)

Cassie--it totally delivered. One of the best book twos I've ever read.

Hah, Kira! I'm sorry...but at least there are just a few more days before you can get your hands on it!

Wendy, you got dem ovaries of steel, because the first book was just so disturbing - I can't imagine reading it in one sitting, then moving on to the next! I had to take day-long breaks between chapters when I was tackling it. And it's one of my absolute favorite books because of that strong emotional reaction.

Gah! Now I can't wait to read this one!

Pricky Awesome! I'm so glad to see that you like this next installment because then I have something good to look forward to!!!! YAY!!!

message 41: by [deleted user] (new)

Ow, ow, damn. Everyone is saying that, and after the mess Unwind did in my soul, I'm scared shit-less. And will still read it.

message 42: by L (new) - rated it 5 stars
