Why have I never read this book before? I enjoyed it so much. There was a little bit of Harry Potter about it but I love those books too so this was a good thing.

As in Harry Potter people are born to be wizards or they are not. Magic is performed through spells which have to be studied and learned. Septimus Heap is a seventh son of a seventh son and is therefore expected to be more magical than normal, but right at the beginning of the book he appears to die and be replaced by another abandoned baby. The mystery is did he live and if so where is he.

I loved the easy manner of the book and the relaxed way the tale unfolds. The characters are all either charming good guys or evil bad ones. The world building is delightful. The book was interesting, exciting and well paced throughout. I loved it.

I hope the rest of the series holds up. I intend to read them all.
