Jordan Totally agree. I really enjoyed the first half and painfully trudged through the second half. As intended, I’m sure. Unforgettable though

i cant really explain the metaphor but its like his sentences remind me of brutish architecture. nothing ornate but still dominate the senses.

Jordan Oh that’s interesting, Nick. Something of the Cone within the sentences. I like that. I’ve read 6 Bernhard titles this year and had such a hard time ranking them for myself. The Lime Works was a trudge, but looking back I really enjoyed it. I do think Bernhard’s style works better in his shorter works, i.e. The Loser, Woodcutters, Concrete. In the last 12 months Bernhard has become a favorite of mine. A true original beyond accurate compare. His work is always a true experience.

The trudge i think was a little off-putting. and equally impressive. part of my opinion is probably colored by the fact I had just read Zone by Enard prior to correction. it took is a giant block of text, but it is elegant and rhythmic, qualities notably absent in Correction.
