Death on the Nile (Hercule Poirot, #18)

This was my second Poirot after Murder On The Orient Express a few years ago. Seems like that is the one everyone has read! I read that one because I was interested to read it before the new movie version came out. This time I was looking to try another Poirot, and saw that Branagh was doing another run as the detective in an upcoming cinematic version of Death on the Nile, so it was the perfect one to try next.
It was good, but not quite as good as Orient Express. I am kind of not sure what else to say. It felt similar - as I am guessing they all do. Convoluted at times. I was surprised by a lot of it, but did guess a few things. I enjoyed the characters and the dialogue. Good fun, but not monumentally mind-blowing.
Worth reading for a fun little getaway that will get your mind-juices flowing. But, there are better (and worse) mysteries out there (at least from my experience). If you try it maybe it will be the best one you will have ever read - and I hope it is!

I'm glad you enjoyed it. I grew up reading Agatha Christie's books, among others. Absolutely love her! I would recommend my favorites: Sad Cypress, Five Little Pigs and The Murder of Roger Ackroyd.

There are so many Poirot mysteries it is hard to know which ones I should try and read and which ones I can skip unless I have nothing else to read! :)

Great review. I totally agree. I also wanted to read before watching the upcoming movie. It was good but not great. I still plan to see the movie though - love to see the characters come to life.

I am not sure it is one I would have turned into a movie (coincidentally I said that exact thing to my wife last night when we saw a commercial for it!) It will be interesting to see what they do with it.
I may stick to the first movie version with Peter Ustinov as Poirot. The rest of the cast is top notch.

Personally I prefer her "Miss Marple Mysteries"... Poirot just never worked for me.

I also enjoyed Murder on the Orient Express more!
Now I have to go through all all of your reviews to find those better mysteries out there😅 cause you started with best of Agatha, Nile and Orient.

I felt exactly the same! I’ve guessed a lot of capital things ( such as the relationship of Jacqueline de Bellefort and Simon Doyle when they have said the exactly same words to Poirot, in the beginning of the story, and also how did Jacqueline de Bellefort insists on Miss Robson in order to stay with her so that she would be her alibi) that ruined my lecture!
I think I actually might like this more than the orient express
