This is the first novel in which the character Robert Langdon appears (The DaVinci Code being the most famous) The well-known symbologist is called in by the director of CERN when a renowned scientist is found murdered. The scientist had created anti-matter, in an attempt to demonstrate that divine creation of the universe was scientifically explainable. The scientist has, of course, a brilliant and beautiful daughter. The tale has much payload regarding the Illuminati, an ancient group of scientists who had formed a secret society in opposition to the church. It is fast-paced, and a well made example of the action adventure tale. We learn much about the history of the illuminati, a bit about CERN, but the central questions remain ones of faith and science. It was a fun read, one I felt impelled to return to when free moments appeared.

I misread the title as "The Inferno," and was going to comment that it was a fast read, lol.
While the Dante version is worth lingering over, I imagine one would want to scoot past the other one ASAP

It is a fun read, not a must read.

I remember thinking that this was so much better than Da Vinci Code. Pulp nonsense, but a good read.
Unfortunately, I see Tom Hanks whenever this series comes to mind °͜° Hahahahahaaaahahahaaa

I don't think one needs to worry too much about sequence in these books.

These books always give me inclinations to conspiracy theories. Hey, it could happen........
There really are conspiracies, but so much of what is floated in the world these days is pure, distilled BS. It is much more fun when the conspiracies are confined to the pages of books.

For Angels at war with the dark elements of humanity, I recommend A SECRET CAVALRY. Action & suspence with a lot of heart.
I was encouraged to read this even though I said I didn't particularly like The Da Vinci Code.
