it was amazing
bookshelves: silver-shelf, womens-book-o-the-month

This book is one I am mentally saving for my mother/daughter book club. My daughter is four, so I have some time...but it raises interesting topics, themes, and questions, like:

1. Sex, sex-trafficking, rape and victimization of women (no surprise there)

2. Self-respect

3. the legalization/decriminalization of prostitution/sex-work issue

4. globalization with all its dimples and warts

The book written in a poetic form, but I didn't find it distracting. In fact, I think it managed to create a framework of modesty that balanced the obscenity of the subject matter.

Jen This review was written in '09. My daughter is now ten, the age of many sex slaves, Grayson. When you think of wrongness and inappropriateness, maybe you should consider that as well.

Tyler Johnson He is definitely not a troll. He is a human being with sensitive feelings. Who goes on here anyway for fun?

message 3: by Tyler (new)

Tyler Johnson JEN: you wrote this when she was four.

message 4: by Jen (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jen TYLER: Yes, I did. "Mentally saving" meant holding on to this book for when my daughter and I were ready to read it together. I have a whole shelf dedicated to that purpose. If that bothers you, you are welcome to shoo anytime.

Mir What's up with these weirdos?

Emily Londrigan I'm curious -- what else do you have on the "mentally saving" shelf? Looking for some stuff for my mom and me. Love this idea.
