Win Lockwood has always been a fun, highly enjoyable, quirky character in the Myron Bolitar books. As for holding his own in his own book, I’m underwhelmed. There’s far too much time spent in Win’s head; he’s moody, selfish, pretentious, thoughtless, arrogant, and obnoxious. On top of that, the book was kind of boring. Not much really happens besides Win pontificating at length about how great it is to be rich and what a wonderful life he leads. I find I really like Win in small doses, but as for a full book of his various unpleasant eccentricities not so much.

I enjoy Harlan Coben’s work; but if he plans to make a series out of the “vigilante anti-hero Win, he seriously needs to work on some of his more unpalatable character traits. Yes, Win is a rich bad boy; but he doesn’t have to be such a thoroughly unlikable ass all the time. The premise of the book was interesting, the execution left a little to be desired.

Towards the end there were the twists and turns Coben is known for, but nothing anywhere near the quality of some of his other books. And the quirky, fun Win from the Bolitar series was nowhere to be found. Here he was morally repugnant and made me feel dirty from his vigilante ‘adventure. Color me disappointed.

John Well said!

Karen Halfway through, I love Win but this story line so far is not doing it for me It feels as if its going nowhere

Cecilia Badea My thoughts exactly... I loved Win from Miron Bolitar series. This one sounds too much like an arrogant, petulant child.

Jeanette I'm more than 1/2 way through and read reviews just because I feel the same as you state well. He's too, too for his own series. Too elite and just over the top isn't enough pith for a series, IMHO.

RachelW (BamaGal) The book is not a truly bad read, it's just not the quality one would have expected from Coben. Now that it's actually released, the common sense reviews are starting to overtake the unrealistic gushing arc reviews.

Marc D. I totally agree with everything you said. Win turned out to be a very unlikeable character. The plot was not engaging at all and I certainly didn't buy the ending...you know, the big reveal as to actually did what to whom and why. Too many discrepancies for my taste.

Eileen I haven't finished this book yet and have only read his standalone books - liked them a lot. But this character Win leaves a lot to be desired. I can't stand him!!! Debating whether or not to finish this book. Maybe Coben's been hanging around his rich buddies like chris christie too much or something.
