Mr Stephenson's ideas are always first rate but the execution can be a little unpredictable. Having said that, this is a good one :)

This is my first read by him! Can you recommend what to read next?

Hmmm, that is a difficult one. I loved the slow sonority of "Anathem", especially when you contrast it with the (excellent) fast paced, modern, thriller that is "Reamde". For sheer inventiveness, however, I'd have to say "Snow Crash". I would (and have, at length, many times) that it has the best central idea of any science fiction novel. It's a technicolour sunburst of a novel, but not to everyone's taste I freely admit.
