bookshelves: gothic-romance

I love Gothic Romances but Lakesedge is your typical YA fare. There’s the chosen one who will sacrifice everything for those she loves, even if her choices are idiotic. All the characters annoyed me with their martyrdom. I don’t find it realistic and it’s the only character trait any of the three main characters had besides a tragic backstory and magic they can’t control.

Then there’s a love triangle or the beginnings of one. Honestly, the romance is quite boring but that’s partly due to the characters being so ill-defined. How the story ends is predictable and reminiscent of The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue. So, if you liked that book then you will most certainly like the next book in this series. While the storyline with the Lord Under has promise, I’m not sure that my slight interest in it is enough for me to stick around for the next book. Honestly, Lakesedge is a prime example of why I don’t read YA very often. However, if you are a YA reader, I’m sure you will enjoy this book and maybe be less annoyed with it than I was.

MV Thanks for your review! Sounds like something I don't have time for in my reading life, lol

Alix Yeah it had potential but ugh I was so annoyed while reading it lol

message 3: by Sarah Mac (new)

Sarah Mac Ditto MV. 😬 The blurb had me intrigued enough to keep it on the radar, but nope. Yet another good idea ruined by the same crappy YA tropes.
