Perhaps you like to take a walk in the evening but just might skip an amble down Needless Street, for there is something strange and weird going on. The boarded-up house is home to a man who drowns his sorrows in a bottle, a rebellious teenage girl, and a most intriguing cat. Into this strangeness moves a new neighbor, one who is curious about the what seems to be a derelict house.

I must say, without saying to much about the plot, that this book had one going round in circles. Just when you thought you had it figured there was that proverbial curve ball thrown in that set you back to the beginning of your path. There are several people telling their story and one, the cat, a feline narrator. It's hard to decide who to believe, but your senses are awakened to the eeriness of the setting, the possibilities, and the spookiness of the story. While Ted, Lauren, his supposed daughter, and Olivia, the cat, make for an intriguing group of disturbed individuals, (well not the cat though her religious leanings tend to be a tad odd), it is Dee, the sister of a girl who went missing years ago who is the most interesting. Dee believes that Ted is the one who was responsible for the sister's disappearance and is dead set on proving it.

While there were some exciting moments, after a while, the motivations and certainly the mystery surrounding Ted became apparent. He was a disturbed individual, that is made worse by his excessive drinking.

It's an odd book, one that readers perhaps will dislike intensely or like a lot. Definitely add to your TBR if you are in the mood for a story that might be perfect for the coming season.

Denise Great review, Marialyce! 😘 I am only four chapters in and almost stopped after the entire chapter of the cat talking and reading the Bible - say what?? I'm continuing on but am definitely wondering what the hype is all about so far!

Jayme I enjoyed the Audible performance but the actual story-not so much! Great review!

Crystal Thanks for the review (as always!). I was considering this one, but a cat narrator and odd style wouldn't be a fit for me.
