really liked it

Remind me never to read reviews written by my most ardent "fans."

This book is great, but it appears #TeamStephenson was expecting the opening of the Ark of the fucking Covenant.

If you want a smart, contemporary, geeky, international action thriller written by someone who just spent 10 years writing an epic about the connections between the tech of the 17th century and the tech of the 21st—in longhand, on, like, parchment, with a fountain pen, the showboating bastard—then read this.

It's fun. And funny. And damned good.

If you want something else, put this down, walk away, and go on witcha bad self. Never you worry—there's bound to be a new Patterson out by Tuesday.

That is all.

Jen LOL!!!!!

Awwwwww, Joolz, you don't like your Sexies' reviews?!

Julio Genao I don't have any reviews. I haven't published anything yet.

But reading what these supposedly "smart" people had to say about this smart dude's smart books makes me want to go hulksmash on some fucking lab equipment.

message 3: by Jen (new)

Jen LOL, I mean, our reviews we've written about other work. ;-)

message 4: by Jen (new)

Jen Well, we can't all be as brilliant at literary interpretation and critique as you. *coos*

message 5: by Jen (new)

Jen *pets* No hulksmash. You'll ruin your Bunsen burner.

Julio Genao Nah, you're fine, luv. All Lexi's Sexies have impeccable taste.

It's this dude. The post-Gibson mantle of Cyberpunkery slipped off his shoulders when he decided to write about metallurgy and Louis the XIV and Barbary pirates, and his fan base went apeshit.

S'just not right.

message 7: by Jen (new)

Jen Glad we're not responsible for your ire. I would weep, like a sad panda.

Julio Genao No, silly. Your rainbow vomit keeps me sane, half the time. I lurrrrrvs yoos guyz.

message 9: by Jen (new)

Jen YAY!!

*pukes a rainbow for Joolz to frolic in*

message 10: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly Love the panda...sure wish I knew how to add pics...I felt computer literate until attempting that on here...haha

Btw good evening you two!

message 11: by Jen (new)

Jen Hi Kimberly!!

Adding a pic:

< img src=URL >

(WithOUT the spaces on the brackets, but WITH the space btwn img and src....)

Make sense??

Julio Genao Same here, Kimberly. I've read the instructions, Jen's explained it fifty times, and I still, still don't have the calories to spare in doing it properly. Besides, she's the one with the pandas and rainbow vomit.

Julio Genao but it has to be hosted somewhere else, right? you can't just upload a pic from your HD, i think.

what about facebook? can i post FB pic urls?

message 14: by Jen (new)

Jen LOL, awwwwwwww. Well, I'll just have to dealing your hits of flailing Kermies, detonating reproductive organs, and rainbow vomit, then.

I've not gotten FB links to work. I either use the URL from Google, or upload something to my Photobucket account.

message 17: by Jen (new)

message 35: by Natasha (new) - added it

Natasha *kicks rocks* i have a hard time committing to 1044 pages, but i've been meaning to read this forever

Julio Genao i thought it was way fun. maybe when the mood's right, ya?

Plainbrownwrapper You cracka me up. ;-D

I was just looking at this at Audible today, 'cause it's on their sff sale. Hmmm.

Julio Genao this might be fun as an audiobook, depending on the narrator

Plainbrownwrapper I did buy it. If I ever get around to listening, I'll let ya know. His Anathem was a seriously odd book, but I sure haven't forgotten it. I haven't read the Cryptonomicon or the Baroque Cycle, though.

Julio Genao anathem grew on me—the ending was beautiful.

I've read everything, and oddly enough his baroque cycle was my favorite.

Plainbrownwrapper These days I'm more of a fantasy kinda girl than an sf kind, but I do dip my toes in occasionally. We Shall See.

Liz Sadly the hardcore fans can sometimes be the worst, at least when it comes to sci-fi. And I'm including myself there.
