Why do I keep doing this to myself�
Plot & romance:
This author really just made this world-building to whatever she wanted and made my guy Hudson over here scream like a bird for shits and giggles.
It read like a fever dream because everything that happened was so random. This book was all over the place and I have no idea why I couldn’t put it down.
Starfall? What in the ACOMAF.
FADE TO BLACK? ARE YOU FUCKING WITH ME? Vague descriptions?! Girl you know I’m here for the romance because I’m sure as shit not here for the plot, and all you give me are crumbles?
And don’t get me started on how the villain just told the MCs all his plans because he just had to gush about his success, of course it wasn’t done so the author could give the MCs some help.
To sum it up, it’s a clusterfuck of randomness when it comes to the world-building, and their relationship fades into background noise which is the complete opposite of what I wanted. I wanted more of their relationship in the beginning, but the author just did a time skip of 6 months.
Characters:
Poor Hudson deserves so much better. I think I’d like this book more if Gracacas wasn’t so stupid and annoying. How did she survive on pop tarts and Dr Pepper without getting diabetes? Must be the magic system or some shit. And Grace is either crying or screaming.
Language:
I know he’s British, doesn’t mean you have to write “fook� instead of fuck.
Gracussy’s thought monologues are endless and painfully bored me to death.
Don’t get me started on the cringe chapter titles.
There are so many anaphors and it made the language extremely repetitive and annoying to read.
Every time Grace wakes up from sleeping, she has to recap everything that just happened, like we don’t already know.
Summing up:
The instant relief that washed over me when I finished this book is indescribable.
On and on this book went, and still I read the whole thing. I lost interest in the romance because it became the side character of its own story. It would have been 200 pages long if the author cut the thought monologues and the repetitive language.
“It doesn’t make sense. None of this makes sense.� I couldn’t have said it better myself Gracey.
Will I be reading the next book? Absolutely.

That’s why I had to stop at Crush. The plot simply morphed into something too ridiculous for me to engage in.

This one was awful. I hope she wraps it up well in the 6th book.
I thought Court was the biggest let down. I’m a 3rd of the way through this one and clearly I was wrong. 🤦🏻♀�

Love this review, I DNF'd after book 2 but I had fomo so I had to read Covet but that just sent me into another universe with the plot holes. I was getting fomo again. Thank you

No literally - these characters have the most incessant inner dialogues of any characters ever. The series needs a better editor because the length and repetitiveness have really tanked it

This is how I’m feeling about half way through and I actually enjoyed the last few books. I’m frustrated

This is me! I can’t stop reading these books. The storyline at the base of it is pretty interesting. But gosh the repetitiveness is killer! Will I read the next one? Absolutely� because I can’t stop myself and need to know where it goes. Sigh!

I adore your names for Grace. I always give myself a few months between these books because of how poorly they're written, but I can't not know what happens. I just started this one & I had to do a double take that I wasn't accidentally rereading Crush because it's so similar. I despise this one.

With all the randomness it doesn't really make sense, it has me really convinced that this author used some of these newish ai programs to help her write... That fever dream feeling is what compels me to believe it... I think it she cut the dialog of graces mind by 90%, gave her at least one hobby/skill, and didn't try to use the f word to make the exchange seem "intense". There might have been a good book. Maybe.

This is so how I feel. I’ve given all the books two stars only because I read them cover to cover. I didn’t enjoy it either. I just read it to get through it. And I found myself scrolling through those pages of inner thoughts as well. It’s so weirdly random. It’s like bad fanfiction you read to pass the time.

I cannot agree with you all more. I am torn between these being irresistible and a flaming bag of garbage 😅If “she blushed and not from the cold� had been a drinking game I’d have been blacked out before getting through the first half of any of the previous books. This one has proven to be even more challenging to ignore the monotony and has taken me the better part of the year to finally finish. Ready for the next one though so something is still working.

I don’t know why I keep reading them when I hate the writing so much but also I can’t stop😭like every single page I think “wow this is awful� or literally cringe but I finished the whole thing and this is what? Number 4?? Embarrassing for me

I feel your frustration
I totally feel exactly the same as everyone else commenting on this post. I stopped reading the book for months and read other books and finished them and finally just came back to this book only because the ocd in me couldn’t just not finish it…in hopes that it will get better. I am now starting the last book of the series I hope that it will take me on the ride that the other books did before this one and that she will finish the series out with a bang and I don’t mean with Hudson and apart. That whole we’ve got to be tortured and apart thing is bullshit. Characters storylines can end the way everyone wants them to. There’s nothing wrong giving the readers what they want.

Is it necessary to complain about absolutely everything? girl,about the pop tarts and the dc pepper, it is mentioned on more than one occasion that when they were in Hudson's lair they did not go hungry and they did not have health problems either. Also, because it bothers you until Hudson sang like birds when the only thing they did there was get bored, that's normal. I would like to see you reading Don Quixote of La Mancha instead of having fun when you have been locked up for more than a year. Stop giving massive criticism for anything you read.Also, if according to you Grace is so unbearable, why have you reached book 5 when she is the protagonist?

Couldn’t agree more. Based on numerous reviews, I've decided to return this book without even reading it. The series should have concluded with book four, which I didn't particularly enjoy either. While books two and three were somewhat enjoyable, the excessive use of poptart, Dr Pepper, and hot pink became tiresome. Grace's character comes across as a repetitive drunk. she’s unable to move beyond herself. Her constant reiteration of thoughts and feelings bored me to no end. I only managed to get through the fourth book by listening to the audio version while busy with other tasks. When I attempted to start this latest installment, I quickly lost interest and set it aside for days. I only picked it up again out of guilt for spending money on it. However, after trying to read it, I've concluded that it simply isn't worth it.
