People We Meet on Vacation

The people you meet on vacation isn’t referring to the strangers who may be visiting the same locale as you…it’s the versions of yourself that you discover-or let others discover-because you are far away from home with nothing to lose.
And, the best version of Poppy seems to exist during her annual vacation with her best buddy-Alex.
They shared a car ride home, 12/years ago, and took a vacation together every Summer, for ten years-viewing each other as friends who wanted different things out of life, not suited for each other as anything more.
95% of the time.
But, 5% of the time, Poppy would wonder, Why Not? What If?
Then something happens which will keep them apart for two years. TWO years which will make Poppy realize that the last time she was truly HAPPY, was on that final vacation with Alex.
They have not spoken AT ALL, since parting ways-but she will send a text message out to his phone # and HOPE that she can convince him to take another vacations and get past the distance that has been keeping them apart.
Told from the alternating timelines of THIS SUMMER, and past Summers, which chronicled the places they visited, the things they shared and the people they met along the way, this was the FRIENDS to LOVERS trope for Poppy and Alex.
But, it was a SECOND CHANCE romance for me. I didn’t care for BEACH READ-the dialogue was too introspective-not sexy or witty-to me. I didn’t connect with the humor or feel any chemistry between January and Gus. But, a friend convinced me to give the author a second chance. (Looking at you, Susanne Strong)
I am happy to report that this wasn’t the case with this book-I was definitely rooting for these two and hoping for the Happily Ever After, that we read this genre for!! 💕
