Julia y does it seem that ur not Matt, and in reality, ur Natalie?
if ur really Matt u'll actually talk to me at school...

message 2: by Matt (new) - rated it 1 star

Matt no i wont.
idk u.

Julia so that proves ur Nat, and if u r matt, and u dk me y r u talking to me now... wait... what one class do I have with u outside of school?

message 4: by Sara (new)

Sara this is a really confusing convo out of context

message 5: by Matt (new) - rated it 1 star

Matt mhm. w/e

Julia mayb that was the point... I'm a confusing person

Frank "its really complicated and stupid!"

I suppose rocket science is stupid then, it's really complicated too.

"why cant we be reading like Romeo and Juliet?!?!"

Because Romeo and Juliet isn't as good.

"at least that book is good!"

Shakespeare never wrote a book in his life. It is a play.

Julia lol... agreed

Julia again, agreed

Frank Whether you like Shakespeare or not, he is good. Sounding like an idiot and attempting to put it down, albeit poorly, doesn't validate your points.

message 11: by Julia (new) - rated it 1 star

Julia We never said we didn't like it. But reading it in high school along with getting A's in all your other classes is just a little difficult.
And we can really say whatever we want, since this is a place where we can comment on books how ever we like. A person doesn't have to like every book.

Frank You can say whatever you want, however just like any other forum you run the risk of sounding like a moron like Matt here. And I'm just curious, but why are you defending him when he clearly doesn't care?

message 13: by Julia (new) - rated it 1 star

Julia It's not my fault they sounded like an idiot. I'm not really defending him (even tho, this is my friend who doesnt go on here who isnt Matt)it's more like you critizing our way of thinking. Everyone has their right to sound how ever they want and say whatver about a book.

I don't see why you care so much about this anyway....

Frank That's right, they have the right to do and say however they wish, therefore I have the right to say they are morons for saying what they say.

message 15: by Julia (new) - rated it 1 star

Julia yea, you do, but you should at least be a nice enough person to either ignore this little review thingy, or be nice about it and state your opinion. You shouldn't be rude about it.

Frank Should be nice, but that isn't as fun.

message 17: by Julia (new) - rated it 1 star

Julia wow... way to be a good person

message 18: by Julia (new) - rated it 1 star

Julia hahaha... that is kinda sad

Frank Old guy? You should probably look at people's profiles to get some information before you try to insult them instead of looking like an ass, but nice try.

message 20: by Julia (new) - rated it 1 star

Julia well ur pic makes u look older....

Frank " You are damn stuck on the belief that your opinions are the only ones that matter"

When did I say that?

" What, is it because you're four or five years older than us?"

No, it's because I know what I'm talking about. Even if I was four or five years younger than you and knew what I know now it wouldn't be any different other than my birth date.

"Older age doesn't necessarily mean you're always right"

I never said that, in fact you're the one who brought up age in the first place. So good try.

"but I already know what you're going to say next, trying to shove your beliefs and thoughts into our heads and make us admit defeat."

I never tried to force any beliefs down your throats at all, I merely pointed out your logical fallacies.

"News flash, it's not happening. Our opinions are our own"

No way! I never would have guessed!

"- no one should try to sway them or think they can"

That's almost as anti-intellectual as you can be, thanks for the chuckle.

"We aren't trying to change your opinion of Macbeth or Shakespeare, so what makes you think you can change ours?"

I know that, what do you take me for? Thanks for trying, but you come off as too self righteous, perhaps you should have a seat with some picture books at your local library?

Frank "How does self righteousness automatically categorize a person as stupid?"

I said that?

"Telling someone they should be looking at picture books pretty much means you think they're stupid. "

Wow, you're pretty observant! It's almost as though that's exactly what that was intended!

"I have read Macbeth, and I did like and understand it."

Well, maybe you're not entirely hopeless then.

"Some people have more difficulties reading certain types of literature than others and can get frustrated"

That doesn't make a book/play bad, just because something challenges a person doesn't mean they can't adapt to it. Nobody picked up Shakespeare for the first time and completely understood it, you have to learn, that is why you go to school. How are you going to learn if nobody challenges you?

"especially when they have this difficult literature forced on them in school. They form judging opinions because of the frustration,"

I refer this to my last point.

"So what's your point? Why do you care so much if you think we sound like morons? "

I don't care, really.

Frank I could ask you the same question.

message 24: by Julia (new) - rated it 1 star

Julia we're still commenting because you keep dissing us for NO REASON! It's not like we asked you to join into this conversation, you just butted in... it's not like you're our friend on this, so where would you get the idea that you are welcome to diss out opinions.

Frank Oh, I wasn't aware that open internet forums were the place to conduct private conversations, my bad.

Frank That's interesting, because if I'm following this correctly, I never talked to you or your friend, I talked to Matt, and you two talked to me.

I think you should watch this video by a guy on YouTube, it's called "Off the Pill - Nosy People" by a guy whose user name is Nigahiga. He's not that funny, but I find it relevant to your butting in on my comment to Matt.

Enjoy your evening.

message 27: by Julia (new) - rated it 1 star

Julia actually since we were having a convo with him first, u just decided to butt in and be a jerk. We have more reason to talk to him, since im friends with him, u r clearly not, and we're not friends with u.....

Frank I never butted in on your conversation, I initiated an entirely new one with him, the internet is not a one track conversation. It's not as though we are in person, you're treating it like I literally stepped in between you two.

I was having a personal conversation with Matt, whether I'm his friend or not is irrelevant, have you never spoken to someone you didn't know in your entire life? You must be pretty lucky to have met all your friends on the day of your birth.

message 29: by Julia (new) - rated it 1 star

Julia ur such a jerk, u know that

Frank Very original, how will I ever come up with a come back half as witty as your genius insult. I bow to your creative mastermind.

message 31: by Julia (new) - rated it 1 star

Julia thanks, I know I am really smart. Aren't I Megan. Like serriously I am. Thanks for noticing.

Frank "Like serriously I am"

So smart you can't even spell seriously... I am in awe of your amazing talent.

I won't even bother to mention all the other syntax errors.

message 33: by Julia (new) - rated it 1 star

Julia hahhaha!!! it took u this long to notice I was spelling stuff wrong. Wow, rn't u a smart human.... at least ik im spelling stuff wrong, u didnt catch that until now. ur slow...

message 34: by Julia (new) - rated it 1 star

Julia hahaha

message 35: by Sara (new)

Sara Hey Dude, go relax and take a chill pill. Why do you care so much about what a few teenagers think?

>"why cant we be reading like Romeo and Juliet?!?!"

Because Romeo and Juliet isn't as good.

So smart you can't even spell seriously... I am in awe of your amazing talent.

I won't even bother to mention all the other syntax errors.

Okay, so let me get this straight, you're so incredibly smart and yet the best answer you can give is that "Romeo and Juliet isn't as good."?
Wow. O.o
I bet you think a public schooling institution is the only place to learn, too.

message 36: by Julia (new) - rated it 1 star

Julia hey, yea! that's true! u diss me for calling u a jerk, and the best thing is "Romeo and Juliet isn't as good." that's like a, "beacuse i said so."
and if u were so good at english and that crap, it would bother u that u used a contraction.

Frank Oh boy! I really get to have fun today! Where to start...

" it took u this long to notice I was spelling stuff wrong"

I knew all along, however chasing someone down for their spelling isn't really as fun. However, when you attempt to say that you are smart and in the same line make a spelling mistake you become perfect fodder. You made a good try though.

"ur slow"

I'm hoping you can note the irony in that on your own.

"Why do you care so much about what a few teenagers think? "

Since you've made it painstakingly clear that you haven't read everything or you have no reading comprehension whatsoever, I'll say it again, "I don't care".

" the best answer you can give is that "Romeo and Juliet isn't as good." "

Oh, I have plenty of reasons, since you're interested in my education perhaps it would be prudent to mention that I currently study Shakespeare and classical literature at a university in my country. However, since you cannot even understand the intricacies and genius of Macbeth it is clear that no matter how I attempt to explain that Romeo and Juliet is inferior you would fall back on the classical argument "that's just your opinion!" when the fact is Romeo and Juliet actually isn't as good. I don't care which one you like better, Macbeth is superior in literary merit.

"I bet you think a public schooling institution is the only place to learn, to"

Is there a single human in North America who doesn't know that there are several schooling structures? How is that even an insult? All you've done is made yourself look like an ass since my profile clearly states I am attending a university, which is not a public institution.

" u diss me for calling u a jerk"

I love you still manage to make it seem like I initiated your aggression. Good victim complex here you'd make an excellent defendant in court one day.

"it would bother u that u used a contraction."

Why would I care? I'm writing on the internet, not a book.

Hey uh smart one, that doesn't even make sense. That was the first comment I've posted in this little debate. I've never said anything about having not read Macbeth... or for that matter, anything about what books I've read. Evidently you haven't been paying attention to who has been saying what and hey, why don't you prove your genius by actually telling us why Macbeth is so great instead of telling us it is and that you're not being more detailed is because you're so much smarter than us?

Frank "Hey uh smart one, that doesn't even make sense. That was the first comment I've posted in this little debate. I've never said anything about having not read Macbeth... or for that matter, anything about what books I've read"

There's that reading comprehension thing again. I also never said anything about you reading Macbeth, I was talking about this thread, this string of comments. Do you realize how stupid you seem?

"why don't you prove your genius by actually telling us why Macbeth is so great instead of telling us it is and that you're not being more detailed is because you're so much smarter than us?"

It takes too much time. Clearly you have never discussed Shakespeare in a paper. I don't want to bog down thousands of words writing comparisons and making points. Unless you are going to pay me or give me grades that will boost my average, I'm not going to put in the time to work on it. Suffice to say Romeo and Juliet lacks certain complexities, is his worst written tragedy, and lacks the great literary merit Macbeth contains. If you really wanted to know you'd go look it up yourself, that's how learning works.

Hell, if I just told you how it is you wouldn't learn anything. You've already proven, twice, (which is impressive since you've only posted twice) that you have no reading comprehension, why should I bother writing up a big long explanation when you can't even read these little ones properly?

Sorry, I don't educate rocks.

Sara "There's that reading comprehension thing again. I also never said anything about you reading Macbeth, I was talking about this thread, this string of comments. Do you realize how stupid you seem?"

When you post a direct quote from someone, then proceed to respond to it, it appears that you are responding to that specific person. In addition to that, if you're talking to us as a group, why do you keep using the singular noun and do nothing to indicate that you're talking to us as a group?

"It takes too much time. Clearly you have never discussed Shakespeare in a paper. I don't want to bog down thousands of words writing comparisons and making points. The thing is, though, that since you have yet to write a post with actual substance, you don't sound very smart and you have yet to prove your argument. Instead of writing an in depth post, you keep resorting to using large words and insulting us.

"Sorry, I don't educate rocks."

Was that supposed to be an insult? Because the last time I checked, I was a human and rocks couldn't type.

message 41: by Frank (last edited Feb 01, 2010 11:07AM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Frank "When you post a direct quote from someone, then proceed to respond to it, it appears that you are responding to that specific person."

Because that's the way it works. However, just because I am talking directly to you doesn't mean that I can't reference things outside of the conversation at the same time.

"The thing is, though, that since you have yet to write a post with actual substance"

That is because this is not my review, I have no obligation to provide anything.

"you don't sound very smart and you have yet to prove your argument."

Well, if you believe so then so be it. Like I said, my argument takes too much time. Would you want to write up a big, long, complex essay/explanation for some random person you don't know on the internet just to prove them wrong? I don't think you would. And to prove it, I'll ask you what you're asking from me. Why don't you take the time to write about whichever play you think is better?

"Was that supposed to be an insult?"

Yes.

"Because the last time I checked, I was a human and rocks couldn't type."

Wow, you almost make it seem as though I was directly calling you a rock and not equating you, as a person, to a rock. Your understanding and mastery of the English language is a god sent gift!

message 42: by Julia (new) - rated it 1 star

Julia OH MY GOSH!!!!!! Do you not hear yourself?! You are such a jerk! And your combacks, are those of like 5 year olds! Or the idiot jocks at my school. For being a "smart" student, your combacks lack substance.

Frank " Do you not hear yourself?! "

No, I don't, since I'm not talking out loud.

"You are such a jerk!"

Is that all you can come up with?

" And your combacks, are those of like 5 year olds!"

I'm sure a five year old could come up with something more clever than "poop head" or some such pedantic nonsense.

"Or the idiot jocks at my school"

Ah, if I had a nickel for every time I heard a jock say "I was equating you to a rock" or "your mastery of the English language is a god sent gift!"

"For being a "smart" student,"

I never said I was, but I'm glad you seem to think so despite your attempts to seem sarcastic you still seem to have somehow made that connection.

"your combacks lack substance."

Funny, coming from the person who has contributed nothing more than the word jerk. You mad?

message 44: by Julia (new) - rated it 1 star

Julia Are you kidding me. I have deffinatly contributed more than ust saying jerk.
Why do you feel that have to make fun of everything we say?
And no, I don't think you're smart. YOU think you are. A smart person, wouldn't mock others for their thinking.

♥ Rachel♥ Frank, you're right about Macbeth (even though I personally prefer Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth is much better), but you're just acting like an asshole and sounding far less intelligent than you (think?) you are by insulting Julia and Megan and Sara...debate without personal insults is much more effective, I'm sure you've noticed.

message 46: by Julia (new) - rated it 1 star

Julia Thank you Rachel. :) If Frank would have been nicer about his opinion, like you, maybe this wouldn't be going on. :)

♥ Rachel♥ :) No problem.

Frank "but you're just acting like an asshole and sounding far less intelligent than you (think?) you are by insulting Julia and Megan and Sara"

But where is the fun in that?

" A smart person, wouldn't mock others for their thinking."

There are plenty of intellectuals in the world who snub their noses and make fun of people below their stature, are their ideas and genius any less valid because they say mean nasty words that can hurt you?

I am not trying to insinuate that I am some genius or anything, just pointing that out. Would Einstein not be smart if he made fun of people?

"If Frank would have been nicer about his opinion, like you, maybe this wouldn't be going on. :)"

Exactly, and that's why I wasn't nicer. I'm surprised you hadn't picked up on this by now.

message 49: by Julia (new) - rated it 1 star

Frank Well that isn't what I'm here for, did you not read my last comment?
