it was ok
bookshelves: library, time-tunnel-approaching, you-did-this-to-yourself

Eh. Just didn't work for me at all. Both heroines were so flat, I really didn't like either of them. Neither inspired an epic love for the ages, that's for sure. Mariana was a weirdly passive Mary Sue, and Julia was just lifeless. There was also a bit of misdirection that was just bizarre. (view spoiler) The ending was good fun, but too late by then. I think I will just stick with The Winter Sea.

Amanda I have to agree that Winter Sea was way better than Mariana. I still enjoyed this one but it did lack something in the heroine that I just couldn't get over.

Jennifer I just read The Shadowy Horses which I liked more than this one, but The Winter Sea is far and away my favorite!

Sarah Mac Sounds a lot like Shadowy Horses. :P These tepid characters are making me want to scream.

Jennifer Yeah, they are all the same - this one was the worst of the bunch. Most boring people ever.

Sarah Mac I don't get how authors can write such lifeless MCs. They're MCs, for cryin' out loud. They need to inspire SOME kind of emotion in the reader, even if it's outright loathing.

Barbara Helen Plumb Just finished this book last night at 1am. Not because it had me in its grip - just couldn't sleep.
I agree with the reviewer this was a lifeless novel with characters I didn't feel at all engaged with. Felt like a light romance in a magazine short story. Will try the Winter Sea next as that seems to be more highly recommended.

Yes - try the Winter Sea! Still my favorite of hers.

MishaMyrrh I never thought Iain is Richard. All along I thought it was Geoff.

Yeah - there was some good misdirection there! I personally liked Iain better!
