***2 stars***

I've seen so many reviews that said this book is brilliant, charming, funny and witty that I dived in as soon as I got my hands on it. I was very excited at first because the premise sounds like it's right down my alley, but I ended up bored af 🙈

To be honest, if someone would ask me to summarize it in a few sentences, I couldn't. For once, because I didn't care for any of the characters - there were way too many. At some point it was hard to remember who's who and by the end of the story, I didn’t even care who did it, nor could I say exactly who it was 😂 I just wanted to be done with it.

Very underwhelming book.

Joanna Chu (The ChuseyReader) Im reading this too! How are you finding it? Fun characters but a bit slow for me.

I also find it too slow. I'm almost done and I feel like not much is happening, but still hoping it'll kick off with every new page.

Joanna Chu (The ChuseyReader) I keep hoping but I keep getting disappointed haha.

exploraDora I can relate! Not to spoil anything, but it doesn't get much better 🙈😂

Joanna Chu (The ChuseyReader) I had to rush through to get it done and over with. I feel bad for giving it a 1 star but this one really put me to sleep! Thanks for the warning because you were right haha

Omg, yes, I also feel so bad whenever I'm giving a 1 or 2 star review 🙈 but if there's one thing I simply can't accept from a book, is if it bores me to sleep 😂

Laura x I 100% agree with your review! Was exactly the same for me!

exploraDora Glad to hear, Laura! 😁 I've mostly seen 5 star reviews for this book, so I'm glad to know there are others like me who didn't enjoy it either

Elvira Smajlović I was interested in this book for so long.... But lately, I am not so sure I want to read it.🤷‍♀

Provin Martin Great review. It’s making me rethink this one 🧐

Livia My thoughts exactly. Very disappointing book.

exploraDora Hey Livia! Glad to see we feel the same way about this book :D

Bridget Parmenter Trying to decide on chapter 25 if I should just give up on this and you review is helping me decide so thank you! It’s summer and I wanted something juicy to dive into but I’m bored to death with this story. It has the potential to be funny and witty because of the cast of characters I’m imaging at a retirement home but nope…so dull. I just don’t care

Barbara Just loved this!!!!

Karina Definitely skipping this!
It was on sale but glad I saw this review first. Whew! You saved me some mullah, pesos, euros, dinars! Lol

exploraDora Glad to be of service, haha 😁 it's really a borefest 🙈

Francine Yes, boring is the perfect word!

exploraDora 👌🏼😂😁

message 19: by Lisa (new) - rated it 2 stars

Lisa Too many characters to follow and too many side plots. Hoping the second one is better as the main cast of characters seem endearing.

message 20: by Ian M. Pyatt (new)

Ian M. Pyatt Your review echoed my feelings of the book as well. I struggled to stay engaged with almost all of the characters and story lines

Sherwin Dsouza This is exactly my thoughts but I’m trying to get through the book and finish it

Joseph I agree with exploraDora's comments to a large extent. It took me until around page 200 for the story to gel. From then on (after Osman cullied away some of the underbrush) the story was pretty good.

Did you read the second one? If yes, is it worth it?

Glad to hear someone else the same way about it :D

Were you able to finish it?

It's not that it was a bad story... but it was such a slow burner that by the time it got good, I just wasn't invested any more.
