This is a golden age gem!

City is a fix-up novel reminiscent of the Martian chronicles because of its format and pastoral tone.
It’s written as a future history of the world over a huge timespan where sentient dogs and their robot companions inherit the earth in the wake of man’s exodus.
Some of the early tales have some themes touched on by Asimov’s robot stories. The pervasiveness of robots in the near future and a mistrust of the suburbs that pops up In Stories of this age.

It also has a great framing device with a dog historian studying the myth of man. Fun stuff, just don’t go looking for any realistic, hard, science.

Linus Very melancholic and calm book, but with highly outstanding themes and ideas!

Nate Way station is a standout by him as well

Lizz God, I do love Simak. He was so creative!

I've read 4 of 5 of his books now and I'm a fan. I picked up the werewolf principal last weekend and it will be the next one of his I read.

path My favorite Simak. IIRC there is some really interesting dialogue that plays with the idea of humanity and shows its elasticity as a concept. Also agree that Waystation is great. Project Pope is really good as well, if you've ever come across that one.

I haven't come across that one but I finally found a copy of the werewolf principal, I've wanted to read that one for a long time. Space werewolf!
