I've never read Sally Rooney and had no idea what to expect. I actually only chose this on audible because it's performed by one of my best-loved narrators, Aoife McMahon. And I'm so glad I did, as I don't think I would have enjoyed this nearly as much, had I read it. Aoife delivers a stellar performance, and I really struggled putting this one down.

The third person narration worked very well, and almost felt like a script, providing detailed descriptions of the character's actions so we can try and deduce their inner thoughts and feelings. Although I did not expect that I would enjoy watching four millennials going about their everyday lives and sending emails to each other about their existential crises, I ended up being thoroughly entertained. The four characters and their conversations felt incredibly authentic, and I found myself laughing out loud quite often. I even found the very intellectual, sometimes angsty emails interesting.

Beautiful world would make a great book club read, as I suspect everyone will have different views and feelings about the characters and their relationships. I will definitely be listening to more of Sally Rooney's books, which are all narrated by Aoife McMahon.
