Although I enjoyed this first novel by Richard Osman I have to confess that I fail to see what all the excitement and hype was about. The quotes on the cover of the book show the value of having lots of famous friends but it certainly wasn't achingly funny,or a literary masterpiece, not to me at least.

Hilary Only realised from reading your review that this is a series! I'm reading The Man Who Died Twice from looking at reviews people seem to say this one is better, I thought it would be a lot worse than I'm finding it. It's good escapism at the moment!

Shauna I will be really interested to read your review. The first book was very meandering. The chapters were very short and it just seemed a bit plodding. The whodunnit was definitely incredible and probably the weakest part of the book.

Hilary Sounds like I've not missed anything by going straight to the second!

Shauna I am assuming the Murder Club members remain so you may be lacking some backgroind but if a book is well done it should stand alone.

Hilary The start was good, but after being introduced to the characters, the story is focusing on the mystery which isn't holding my interest.

Shauna The murder was the least believable part of the story in this book. I lost interest in it fairly early on too.

Hilary I gave up at p185, so many Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ friends loved this!

Shauna i did wonder if the book(s) would have received so many plaudits if the author was less well-known and well connected. He does have a particular style, at times I found it a little patronising. It certainly was not what I was expecting. Well done for giving up .... there are so many other books out there which you will enjoy.
