it was ok

Not only did I age about 10 years while reading this, but the amount of enabling by both Lily and Loren was starting to trigger me. I understand addiction, I’ve seen it, but enabling someone’s addiction and knowing that you’re doing it makes you partially responsible for anything that happens to them.

Lily was just a bad person all around. She’s extremely fucking selfish and she’s selfish enough where it wasn’t possible to justify all of it by her sex addiction. The girl refused to acknowledge Loren’s alcoholism until Ryke forced her to because what? She didn’t want to lose him? Because his existence enables her and she needs that? I couldn’t stand the way she refused to seek help despite understanding that she has an addiction and that it’s debilitating.

He enables my addiction. Always has. And the longer we’re together, he always will.

description

I also wanted to acknowledge a particular moment where Lily states

“But you don’t need me to drink. You don’t have to ask me to fix a whiskey sour. Your addiction doesn’t infiltrate my life like mine does yours.

→I mean is she serious right now? The fact that she’s refuses to talk to Loren about his addiction IS putting her at the very center of the problem.

description

Lily is also just a hypocrite. She brings random guys to her and Loren’s apartment (even escorts) and has sex with them while Loren is in the next room, listening to everything. BUUUUUT, the second he does the same thing with one girl she goes off the deep end???

Loren was definitely the better MC, but he was still extremely fucked up. He would purposely tease Lily and arouse her throughout the entire book, but especially before they entered their relationship. He did it because he wanted her to ask him to have sex and not use random men. That’s seriously not fucking okay and he would also do it constantly during their relationship, in front of other people and in public!

Between Loren and Lily egging each other’s addiction on and Lily constantly being in heat, I didn’t feel anything for their relationship. To me it just felt like 2 very fucked up friends that started fucking, not 2 people in love. There wasn’t even a big ‘I love you scene, it just sorta…happened.

Ryke, Connor and Rose are definitely the standouts for me. Connor and Rose are absolutely adorable and I dig their enemies to lovers while Ryke is just perfect?? At this point I couldn’t care less about Lily and Loren’s relationship because they’re the type of people that should never ever be together.

Personally, I have a hard time enjoying romances where characters are suffering with addictions. I think it has to do with me not being able to love characters when they love their addiction more than each other. But that's just me 🤷‍♀

Matilda ܲí, the funny part is I only remember there being 2 sex scenes with the MCs. Everything happens off page

Thank you girl ❤️

julia oof. this one sounds rough. the fact that they both put their addictions over the others well-being is seriously f*cked up.

in addition, it sounds like there's a ton of drama and it seems like that drama got spread out into 3 books? lol. nahh. i'm good.

great review, but sorry this one didn't work for you :((

Ana | SheSaidYestoBooks Lily got so much on my nerves that she ruined the book for me.

TJ ☾ just focus on ryke being perfect 😌 lily and lo dont deserve him

Penny great review, matilda! i've only ever read ryke and daisy's book cause the other characters didn't really appeal to me, and it looks like i'm not missing out with this one. lily sounds horrible here omg 😕 hope you enjoy the other books more! 💕

Matilda Julia , it’s actually over 5 books 😂 and their problems show up in other characters books which I believe are FIVE more 💀

Matilda She Said Yes to Book, completely agree! I wish she at least had a personality aside from her sex addiction

Matilda TJ , if it wasn’t for Ryke and Connor I swear this would have been 1 star

Matilda Penny, I would have just skipped and read their book, but my friends begged me to start from the beginning and read in order 😭😭

Tanya 😥

Pinky Damn I loved this couple but I do agree with some points. Lily was definitely more unlikeable. I kept saying it's cuz of her addiction but it did get too much at points. Loved your review girl, I'm so glad you started this series

Matilda Tanya, exactly me

Matilda Pinky, I'm kinda glad I started it too, but idk when I'm going to get around to continuing it 😭

EmBibliophile I’ve been wanting to read the spinoff since forever and the only thing holding me back is having to read the addicted series first, lol! This book just sounds like a lot!

Sophie Ok I gave this book like 3 stars and everyone hated me for saying it was bad and LITERALLY TOLD ME I DONT KNOW HOW TO READ BOOKS PROPERLY, it is nice to know I wasn't the only one who wasn't impressed with this.

Matilda EmBibliophile, I was the same! I was going to just skip the addicted series but my gc was begging me to read it in order...now I really just wanna skip these books😂

from what I've heard about the spin-offs, it's worth it to suffer through the addicted series to get to it

Matilda Sophie , I really wanna talk to the people that said that to you and tell them that they have zero taste 🙄

I got your back girl 😤

Like I said to the very rude people who commented on my review that I don't know how to read books properly, it might be kind of like the After series, I know I hated the first after book but the series grew on me the farther I got into it after I gave the characters some time to develope.

Thank you, I appreciate it!!! To be fair tho, I was kind of harsh, I wrote letters to all of the characters telling them everything I hated about them and why they sucked so much 😂

Matilda Sophie , that is the greatest thing I've ever heard actually 😂

message 22: by len ❀ (last edited Oct 03, 2021 03:00PM) (new)

len ❀ thank you for this review because now i know what i’d get myself into when i start this. i'm with irunía here though - i don't know why but i like seeing people roast it because it's so loved and hyped. one day i'm gonna commit to reading this series. today is not that day though.

also, this: Lily is also just a hypocrite. She brings random guys to her and Loren’s apartment (even escorts) and has sex with them while Loren is in the next room, listening to everything. BUUUUUT, the second he does the same thing with one girl she goes off the deep end???

no words, just annoyance right now. i hate it when that happens, whether it's between the male characters or the females, it's still so selfish. are you planning on finishing the rest of the series?

Phuong ✯ the lily roast lmao but I have to agree! took me forever to like her and usually that's only in Coballoway/Raisy's book as a side characters

Neelakshi Lily as a side character> lily as the main character. Connor is JUST my type and I can't wait for you to read my man

Matilda Elena, I always find it fun to hate on books that people are passionate about. The fans to these books give me LJS vibes 🥰

I was a little prepared for this one and it still didn't make me feel any better while reading it. When the heroine is THIS big of a hypocrite, it's hard to find anything to like about her.

Matilda Phuong, it's kinda funny to me that she's more likable when we don't have to read about her whining and inner monologues 😂

Matilda Neelakshi, damn you and Phu's comments are interesting to say the least. I was worried about her being a pretty big part of the spin offs, but it seems like she's more likable so that's good

Marlei you must be really fun

Matilda Lydia, oh I am ☺️ knowing I shit on this book helps me sleep at night

Olivia Turk I’m almost done with this one and I can’t stand lily 😂

lisa. I’m reading this and literally crying out of frustration over Lily’s internal thoughts. I’m only on the first book and my mind wants to explode at the thought of there being FIVE books on their relationship, I can barely stand a book of Lily and Lo destroying each other and Lily being such a pushover. I want to go focus on more enjoyable people like Rose, Ryle and Conor lol but I know I have to read the first 3 addicted books and then the Calloway Sisters book (that’s the recommended order). SCREAMING.

Matilda Olivia one of the worst heroines I’ve read

Matilda lisa 5 books about the same couple makes by brain hurt ugh. unless it’s fantasy, it’s a no from me

they say you can’t skip Lily and Lo’s book but I’m really thinking about it just to get to Rose, Ryle and Conor 😔

message 34: by Sincerely, (new)

Sincerely, Angel are they REALLY together like with real commitment when lily and loren fuck other people or not?

Matilda Aine i mean they fuck and tell each other that they’re in love, so in a way they were. i don’t remember if they explicitly declared that they’re dating tho

it seemed like she expected him to be monogamous even though they weren’t in a legit relationship tbh. hope that helps!

Renuka I can't understand how people are loving this book! And I totally agree with you.

☆~ܳٳܳ This sounds very very sick!

message 38: by ☆~ܳٳܳ (new)

☆~ܳٳܳ It is best to get far far away from addicts. They can destroy you.

Ashley Abra It’s almost as if them enabling each other and then having to fix it and become better people for each other is the whole point of this book
