One of 3 books I would take to a desert island. A beautiful discussion on the nature of our legacy, what we decide to leave or not leave when we die. How that changes in time and how we can not do anything about it. Especially relevant to artists and writers. Delves into the nature of love and families while he is at it. It would take a life time to discuss this book.

Hm... do you agree with the opinion of the author about immortality? Did you read the chapter about immortality in "a crossing or the drop's history" by Anatoliy Obraztsov?

Melissa, what is the authors view point on immortality? I felt he was offering options on how to approach the subject. Each had there merits but it was for you to decide what is best for you. But I think he was pretty clear it is a futile struggle. I'm sorry I'm not familiar with the other book you mentioned.

I've read immortality twice. Once in my 20's and once in my 40's. immortality is a complex topic and even though Kundera offered many ways to look at it I wouldn't presume to know his personal viewpoint. If you read it and felt differently I would like to know. I was curious your thoughts on the subject.

Kundera sometimes seems strange... in my opinion and I don't understand some of his viewpoint. Comparing with the book of Obraztsov where he's very clear. But some important moments of Kundera's thoughts I understand.
It's just one of those books you have to keep coming back to. If nothing else to see how much you have grown. Happy reading. :)
I am curious - what are the other two books you would bring? Immortality is one of my favorites.
Kevin. I would bring Infinite Jest and The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. All three books I could read over and over again.
