it was ok

While I appreciated the backstory at the beginning, this book was so boring.

The pacing is far too slow. Each chapter had a particular plot point, but after the idea was conveyed, the chapter kept going on and on.

OK, we get it. Move on!

CoachJim Enjoy. A Classic.

Panic!_at_the_Library (formerly known as MonReads) I agree. Not my family Austen read.

message 3: by Shain (new)

Shain Verow Yeah, I have to agree with you. It鈥檚 an important book with an interesting history, but I would struggle to recommend it to someone.

Lisa of Troy Ooooh! Now I have to think which of Jane Austen's works is my favorite. Admittedly, I am not in the Jane Austen fan club, but I would have to say the least worst novel of hers is Persuasion.

Panic!_at_the_Library (formerly known as MonReads) I just realized my phone corrected to 鈥渇amily鈥 instead of 鈥渇avorite.鈥 馃檮

I haven鈥檛 read Persuasion. Would you recommend it, Lisa?

message 6: by Samantha (new)

Samantha This was the first and last book by Austen I read. I wasn't awful, and I liked the characters, but I'm with you--it was way too slow and repetitive. Would you say any of her others are worth it if I didn't enjoy this one?

message 7: by Daniel Ray (new)

Daniel Ray Good! Saw the movie. Didn鈥檛 want to have to read the book.

JustJJ This is my fear with classics 馃檲 Fair review Lisa!

message 9: by Ed (new)

Ed Thanks for the review. A real snoozer, huh? Ill have to keep a note in case I have a bout of insomnia.

message 10: by Tim (new)

Tim Preston I thought Pride and Prejudice was the only enjoyable Jane Austen novel? It also spawned one of the very few outstanding British TV series of the 1990s, 'Lost in Austen' (as in Jane Austen, not Austin, Texas) starring Jemima Rooper as a modern young lady who finds she has magically changed places with the heroine of the novel Elizabeth Bennett (who we see more briefly discovering the modern world, played by Gemma Arterton).

Shaun Mark Twain wrote, 鈥淛ane Austen? Why I go so far as to say that any library is a good library that does not contain a volume by Jane Austen. Even if it contains no other book.鈥

message 12: by Dusk (new)

Dusk I feel you! It鈥檚 frustrating when a book drags on unnecessarily. Fair review, Lisa!

Cyndy I think you don鈥檛 understand the context of Regency England. You鈥檙e obviously reading this with modern eyes but need to understand that it was written in a different time.
