Yes, I very rarely give one-star to my books. I suppose I am lucky when I chose my reads.
Considering how many people have loved this essay, I imagine there will be more ouch-ing to my review. But I was just so irritated by it...

Thank you, Katia. This was been a weird year - good but very busy in a somewhat disrupting way. I have missed GR, and my friends here. I hope to come back to a more active involvement soon...
Amongst other things, I miss not having followed your reading path.

Yes, too ambitious which may explain its superficiality.

That such a book has turned into a publishing sensation is surely a mystery. Perhaps it has a better appeal for non Goodreaders—I mean we readers on this site get to read excellent book thoughts—with more variety in the presentation—all the time!

Yes, quite a mystery. Somewhat depressing too. I wonder at what point in the marketing and distribution chain was it decided to give a huge push to this book.
I was recently in Paris and I was dismayed when I saw an add for this book, translated, in the Metro....!!!

Talk about going in studs up"
Thank you, Ray. You do not need to know a lot more about this book.

The challenge of books, the readers take away (or not) what they get out of a book.

Thank you, David, for being so tolerant and open minded. Which were those three books?
I have been away from GR - too busy - and I am sorry I have been missing the reviews you must have been posting. I always like to follow your reading path.

Thank you, Patsylina.... Haha... yes, she gobbled up... I will look for your review.
The idea is certainly good - sad it was developed in this manner.

Thank you, Vesna. May be I am being too harsh, but I was very irritated during considerable parts of this reading.

Well, it has certainly been hugely successful. I believe it has been translated into several languages, and I imagine it has shown a path to other writers - we readers love to read about books.
For me the most irritating aspect was the succession of summaries of books - and may be the self-congratulatory tone.

The self-congratulatory tone in certain authors sets my teeth on edge too. That's why reviews like this are excellent for one's dental hygiene.
