“I love you, Ella May and nothing will ever change that. You can push me away—run away—and I will still love you.
This is such a sweet ‘new adult style romance between two friends, Ella and Micha, who have known each other forever, growing up together. They both come from dysfunctional families Micha’s Dad ran out on them when he was 6 and Ella’s Dad is an alcoholic and her mother suffers from bipolar disorder with delusions of grandeur.
Just as Ella and Micha were about to take their relationship further than friendship one dark and stormy night, Ella decides to run to college without telling Micha where she is going. Traumas in her past that she blames herself for have pushed her over the edge and she decides to reinvent herself.
Now, 8 months later, she is back, barely recognisable as the girl that had run from Micha. The old Ella burned brightly with an inner fire, she was reckless and fiery and passionate and always honest. Now she has repressed all that we she was deep inside and created a façade of a polite and preppy student but Micah can still see the old Ella, his Ella, burning on the inside and he wants her back.
Ella broke my heart her perceived guilt completely defines her. She’s pretending to be happy as the new Ella and not quite getting there, she’s not looking in mirrors because she can’t bear to look at herself, and she’s almost suffocating with panic over her memories. She’s been able to change who she is on the outside but can’t truly change what is on the inside and certainly can’t mask her body’s instinctive and fiery reaction to Micha and her blood is roaring with yearning to be close to him again.
Micha has his own demons to contend with but, despite growing up on the wrong side of the tracks, he’s incredibly mature and grounded and decides to hide these from Ella. He’s worried about her and instinctively wants to protect her. He’s confident he can rekindle the flame and bring the old Ella back.
They’re so sweet together they complete each other. It’s a lovely young romance and I’m looking forward to the next chapter in their story.
Ella
Micha
My OCD needed to know how to pronounce Micha so I asked the author herself and she told me it is My-Kah.

Kristen - there's no real cliffhanger, just a promise of more. There's good closure at the end of this one just a few threads left to develop in the next instalment.
