Emma Deplores Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ Censorship Have fun with that....

Scribble Orca Thanks, Emma - I assume you mean because it's not supposed to be 'light' reading :)

Luke More like you have to have fun with it. Or else you'll go mad. Or worse, not finish it.

Scribble Orca Nothing like a little pressure, here, huh?

Luke Nothing of the sort. My having fun with it consisted of reading it unaided by any companion guides or annotations, and not caring that I only understand one reference in fifty. If that. There's always time for rereads. It also helps how ridiculously well he parodies writing styles. You don't need to understand it to find it hilarious.

Scribble Orca You're making me exceptionally curious, now (as feel exceptionally poorly read).

Luke If this book didn't make someone feel poorly read, they'd have to be: Irish, living in Dublin, going blind, writing disturbing letters to their wife as well as a book inspired by the Odys-

Wait a second.

Scribble Orca So that makes two of us?

Luke Yep. Along with everyone else. Anyone who denies this is a filthy filthy liar.

Scribble Orca I love your humour.

Jonathan Terrington Yes I was told I must read the Odyssey beforehand. Which of course was higher up on my TBR list anyway (that and the Iliad).

Luke It's so dry, it's a fire hazard.

STOPPPP! The leaning tower of Pisa has nothing on my TBR list. And now you're throwing these at me as well. Alright, Jonathan. Just to please you.

Emma Deplores Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ Censorship Not a light read, well, I hear that's a bit of an understatement.... :)

One day I'll probably feel uncultured for not reading this, but I'm hoping that day doesn't come soon.

I never said I was into masochism. But I suppose that's an invitation to view your Babel? Very well.

Em, if I don't finish it, we can feel uncultured together. And even if I do, I doubt that will change my uncultured status :)

don't listen to 'em, it's a beautiful book and isn't remotely dry. will definitely make you feel like a philistine, tho.

Grist to the mill, Sean.

Emma Deplores Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ Censorship Oh no, I think you'll finish it and be uber-cultured. Then you can brag about it all over Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ!

Scribble Orca Emma, my unfinished list competes with my TBR list. But I'll brag about it either way.

Stephen M Whoa! I didn't realize I was the one who recommended this to you. Right on! If you ever get around to this one, it's amazing. It's like really fun at times. Way more so than the Wake. There are difficult aspects of this novel, but he gives you a lot of breathers throughout.
