The pack thought their problems were over with the death of Richard, but they realize now that they're only just starting. Feral Omegas are coming into their territory, Alpha Hughes is clearly hiding things and does not trust them, and the Hunters might be back to finish what they started so many years ago. The pack will need to rely on each other if they want to survive, and even that might not be enough.
If the first book was about Ox finding himself and his place in the world, this one is about Gordo finding his way back into his pack, and learning how to forgive and trust again. He started full of anger and resentment in Wolfsong, and against all odds still decided to leave with Kelly, Carter, and Joe, and came back 3 years later as a member of their small pack. He now needs to accept that Elizabeth and Mark are also a part of his pack and that they won't abandon him again like they did many years ago.
The plot is great, and I really liked this book, it's just the pace that's a little slow (same as in the first book), and it was getting a little long in the middle of the book. The end is full of fighting, action, and revelations, but I had to push through the middle. I can’t really explain why, because I care about Gordo and the “vibe of the book is similar to the first one’s. Despite that, I still enjoyed this book very much and I recommend it if you enjoyed Wolfsong. The first 30% of the book or so is a mix of flashbacks from Gordo’s childhood and a recap of what happened in Wolfsong when Gordo, Kelly, Carter, and Joe left. Maybe that’s why I struggled a little more with this book, I am not really a fan of flashbacks in books. I have to say though that it was well done in this one and it was not too much, it really helped us understand why Gordo felt so angry at Mark and what common past they shared. After that, it's mostly in the present, but there are still a few flashbacks here and there.
I totally adore every member of the Bennett pack, but I admit that at first, I cared a little less about Gordo and Mark than I did about Ox and Joe, so I was a little less invested in the relationship part of the book. This being a reread, I have to say that I cared more about Gordo this time around, but Mark is still a little bland to me. I was still rooting for Mark and Gordo to finally get together and I like that their relationship and feelings felt more mature because of their age. Gordo can hold a grudge for a freaking long time... Although I understand why he was so pissed at Mark and the Bennetts, I couldn't wait for him to finally get his head out of his ass. Could this be qualified as hate to love? Gordo clearly hated Mark, but he also clearly still had feelings for him... I would say that this is more a combination of hate and love than a hate-to-love romance. There were a lot of mixed feelings when it came to Gordo, and it took him a while to go through and process everything he was feeling.
Gordo, Chris, Tanner, and Rico together are so funny and wholesome. They made me laugh out loud many times, and it made up for the pace that was slower at times. They are just so ridiculous, yet cute and so fiercely loyal to each other. It's heartwarming to see how they've been together since they were kids and how they got each other's back no matter what. I didn't count how many times Gordo told them that he fucking hated them all, but I loved every one of their interactions. 😅
The rest of the pack is just as cute and funny as in the first book, probably even more now that they learned how to live together as one big pack. I am eager to read the next book and learn more about Robbie. I was not sure at first if I would like him when he was introduced in Wolfsong, but I really liked him in Ravensong, and I want to see him get his HEA too.

The roses bloomed.
The Raven took flight.
The wolves howled.
Their humans cried along with them.
And I did the only thing I could.
I tilted my head back and sang a song of war.

“Did you just fart? Kelly screeched, sounding horrified.
“Yeah, Carter said, and I could hear the smile in his voice. “Gas station microwave burritos are not so good on my intestines, apparently.
“Get off! Get off!
I groaned, my face in my hands.
“Yes, the old man said as he chuckled, “you have definitely found yourself a pack.
I dropped my hands and looked at him.
“Oh my god, I mumbled, wondering how my life had become this way. I was forty years old, and I belonged to a pack of meddlesome bitches.

But the funny thing about hate is the razor-thin line that separates it from something else entirely.
I hated him for it. For making me feel this way after all he’d done to me and I’d done to him. I wanted him gone. I never wanted to see him again. I wanted him to hurt like I’d hurt. To burn. To bleed. I wanted to keep my hands on him, to feel the animal underneath. I wanted to lean forward and bite him, leaving my mark against his skin, tattooed so that he would never be without me on him, so that everyone would know I’d been there, and I’d been there first. I wanted to kill him. I wanted to fuck him. I wanted him to tear me apart.

“I need to find someone to kiss, I demanded. Rico and Tanner and Chris stared at me with wide eyes.
“Not it, Tanner said.
“Not it, Carter said.
“Not—goddammit. Rico sighed. “I never say it fast enough. Fine. You know what? I don’t even care. Pucker up, lover boy.
I stared at Rico in horror as he started walking toward me, arms outstretched. “Not you.
“Wow. Racist much? Puto.
“I’m not racist—you’re my—god, I hate this so fucking much!
“Though it does make more sense that Gordo would be the pirate instead of me.
“Why would that be? Jessie asked.
“Because I’m straight, Rico explained. “And Gordo likes to plunder the booty.
“I hate you so fucking much, I told him.

The timber wolf eyed him warily, standing above Carter. Once it was sure that Joe wasn’t a threat, it turned back around and put its snout against Carter’s chest again, rumbling low in its throat. Carter tried to shove its face away, but it snapped at his fingers, growling a warning. “What the hell is its problem? Carter asked, sounding annoyed.
“I think it likes you, Elizabeth said mildly.
“Oh, gee, Mother, thank you for your input! I don’t know where I’d be without you!
“You wouldn’t be born without her, Joe said, helpful as ever.
I pointed my finger at him. “I want it working by the time I come in tomorrow. If it’s not, I will take your glasses and shove them up your ass. I turned for the door. 3
“You know, with all the things you’ve threatened to shove in me, it’s a wonder Mark doesn’t get more jealous. I turned slowly back to look at him.
