i finished this in one day, thanks to stephanie racine’s amazing narration! this is my third book from alice feeney, and i always listen to them on audio because she uses the same narrator(s), who do a fabulous job. however, i wound up being underwhelmed by this one. it has a twist that i tend not to like in books now since it’s so overdone/trite. i literally rolled my eyes at one of the reveals and was not amused. this also reminded me a LOT of we were liars because they both have dysfunctional families with secrets about something bad that happened on that island years earlier. i also felt like the characters were a bit one dimensional, and wish the character development was a bit better. in addition, because i read and then there were none (which this was inspired by), i guessed a couple of aspects of the twist, but who was behind it in this book took a lot of suspending of disbelief. i felt the same way as the final reveal in his & hers. i was also like, what??? at a certain reveal, and not in a good way. i will say that this was quick to get through with the audio (although i found myself asking when a reveal was going to happen), and the atmosphere was awesome. rock paper scissors is still my favorite book from this author, as i haven’t been super amused by the other two books i’ve read from her thus far. they’re still mostly enjoyable but not as amazing as rock paper scissors!
