Edgar Allan Poe is one of the OG's when it comes to macabre literature. His name alone screams angst.
I heed not that my earthly lot
Hath-little of Earth in it-
That years of love have been forgot
In the hatred of a minute:
I mourn not that the desolate
Are happier, sweet, than I,
But that you sorrow for my fate
Who am a passer by.
In spring of youth it was my lot
To haunt of the wide earth a spot
The which I could not love the less-
So lovely was the loneliness
Of a wild lake, with black rock bound,
And the tall pines that tower'd around.
Lo! Death has reared himself a throne
In a strange city lying alone
Far down within the dim West,
Where the good and the bad and the worst and the best
Have gone to their eternal rest.
And travellers, now, within that valley,
Through the red-litten windows see
Vast forms, that move fantastically
To a discordant melody,
While, lie a ghastly rapid river,
Through the pale door
A hideous throng rush out forever
And laugh-but smile no more.
The perfect read for cozy winter nights. Feed your soul with these beautiful words.

It's never too late for poetry. I recommend beginning with popular works such as The Poetry of Robert Frost by Robert Frost and The Complete Poems of Emily Dickinson by Emily Dickinson.

"It's never too late for poetry." - I fully agree with that. And oh yes, Robert Frost is also on my list and I actually have a few Charles Bukowski poetry collections that I dip into from time to time ☺️

Bukowski is next on my reading list!

That's great! I don't think I've read from another poet quite like him and I look forward to your thoughts!

Poe is undoubtedly one of my favorite authors. His skill was otherworldly.
