it was ok
bookshelves: abandoned, scifi-steampunk, not-gonna-read, award-hugo

I was mildly enjoying this book, but it just wasn't enough — the thing is huge, and almost nothing happens.

You know what it seemed like? A grown-up version of Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events . Unfortunately, "grown up" in the world means dull and dumb, so the snarky humor is all gone, and all that is left is the mood.

Meh. Don't bother, unless you really need a big book to put you gently to sleep, night after night, for a long time.

(This is #4 on io9.com's list of , which is why I dove in. I also disagree with their #7, but agree with some of the others. So: whatever.)

Traveller Hi Richard, on your Piranesi review you said you hadn't read any other books by Susanna Clarke. Well, I must say I don't blame you at all if you DNF this or simply forgot about it.

I actually slogged on with it to the bitter end...

Richard Yeah, it's tagged "abandoned". Lol.

Right now I'm reading more about outdoor adventuring, and only dipping into fiction for a quick break.
