I am not sure that I’ve ever been more excited to read an advanced reader copy more than I have of Daisy Darker! I literally cried tears of joy when I discovered this copy in my mailbox. Alice Feeney quickly became one of my favorite authors back in 2017 after the release of Sometimes I Lie. Every year she writes a book, it never fails to make its way onto my list of favorite books of the year. So needless to say Daisy Darker is my number 1 most anticipated read of 2022.
Meet the Darker family.
The story begins with the Darker family gathering together at their Grandmother, Beatrice (Nana) Darker’s house the day before her 80th birthday. Nana was told by a fortune teller that she would die on her 80th birthday. She has made a fortune from writing and illustrating children’s books so since she believes that she will die soon she gathered her loved ones together to hear her last will and testament. Nana lives in an eccentric, gothic house called Seaglass that is located on a tiny tidal island. Soon after each of the 6 members of the family as well as a close friend of the family arrives, a storm hits both the outside and inside of Seaglass.
In Daisy Darker, Alice Feeney gives a huge nod to the OG queen of suspense, Agatha Christie. This atmospheric locked room mystery centered around a dysfunctional family kept me not only entertained but on the edge of my seat. I found it so impossible to put down that I did something that I haven’t done in ages, I stayed up all night until I finished it.
I would never give anything away or spoil a story for future readers. All I will say is that the queen of the thriller twist outdid herself with the mind blowing twist in Daisy Darker! To say that my jaw hit the floor when the twist was revealed, would be an understatement.
So not only did Daisy Darker live up to my expectations but it exceeded them! This book also solidified the reason why Alice Feeney is my number one, all time favorite, thriller author. And of course, Daisy Darker made it’s way onto my list of favorites of 2022!
A huge massive thanks to Flatiron Books for the gifted copy
