 Actual rating: 3.75🌟
This Woven Kingdom is the first book in a new trilogy inspired by Persian mythology.
Now, I'm not a big fan of Tahereh -I had a hard time reading Shatter Me series- , but was I still interested in this book? Yap.
Did it exceed my expectations? Based on that rating, it certainly did.
 What to expect:
 Young Adult Fantasy
 Royalty
 Jinn - Ancient bloodlines
 Dual-POV
Good pacing (not too fast, not too slow)
 Tropes:
 Hidden identity
 Forbidden romance
 Insta-Love
 Chosen one
Trigger Warnings: blood, physical abuse, attempted suicide, fantasy racism/xenophobia and graphic violence
 Plot/Writing
We're being honest here, so. There wasn't much of a plot here, now that I think of it, making this the weakest point in this book. It was also a bit predictable, this being the reason why I wasn't shocked by the plot-twists, because I was expecting them.
Altough, that ending was a bit dramatic if you ask me.
We have some fantasy tropes you'll find in old YA books, but I can admit that I liked the way they were put together. One element that made this book more intriguing was the Devil, who speaks in riddles and has been a constant in Alizeh's life.
The writing is so fairytale like, beautiful. The characters speak in medieval-style and I think it matches the era in which the action is supposed to take place.
We have dual-POV and I hated that most of the chapters would end in cliffhanger, then switch to the other POV. It was a little annoying.
Also, the internal monologues were too long and I was tempted to skip them.
 Worldbuilding
This book has incredible worldbuilding. I got lost in the details and didn't mind it at all. Usually, I don't enjoy long descriptions in books, but it seems this is one of the exceptions. The way Ardunia was described made me feel like I was there, wandering the streets with Alizeh.
It was interesting to read about the magic system in this book, which was well described and that made it easy to understand, I hope we can see more magic being used in the next book. And I want to find more about Jinn and the other kingdoms.
 Characters
 Alizeh
Alizeh, a servant girl who's in fact the heir to an ancient Jinn kingdom. I liked her.
She's a strong character, smart, has a kind heart and I appreciated her reluctance to resort to violence.
However, I think her character was too perfect.
--- We aren't seeing much development here, and that applies to Kamran too.
 Kamran
He's respectful, caring and sweet, but also naive, immature and ignorant. I still think he's a sweetheart and needs to be protected at all costs, but I hope we'll see a good character development in the next books.
 Hazan
As many others pointed out, he gives me Kenji vibes. And I'm here for it, because Kenji was my favorite character in the entire Shatter Me series and I can totally see Hazan as him.
 Cyrus
The man only made an appearance by the end, but from the moment he showed up I knew he was trouble. Even if we only had a few scenes with him, I have a feeling this man is going to be one of my favorite characters in this series
 Romance
When Alizeh & Kamran meet there's this instant spark between them which we know as insta-love. It's one of the tropes I don't like in books and if I ever do, is because it's well made ... here it wasn't.
This series is said to be a "romantic trilogy", but the romance wasn't that big part of the story and it was pretty poorly written, in my opinion. I wasn't impressed at all and despite the fact that I like Kamran as a character, I don't ship him with Alizeh.
P.s. As a reader of the Shatter Me series, I think we'll have an Adam-Warner situation.
 Conclusion
We have a book with great potential, set in a breathtaking fantasy world, that I hope will see more of in the future books, and a cast of different characters which I'm ready to follow in this story.
