Okay, maybe they should take away my MLS, or whatever the hell they're calling it these days. Maybe they should figure that after 25+ years in this business I've apparently not learned what I'm supposed to know to do this job.
Or perhaps they should just conclude that I'm hopelessly outdated, a relic of the days of librarians with cardigans and buns and glasses on a chain.
(And I will admit to wearing cardigans.And the bun--when I can manage one for ballet class. No glasses on a chain though--I wear them full time)
But I HATE THIS BOOK. And I didn't like I Want My Hat Back either.
So mark me down as hopelessly un-hip.
But then, I think "Kid Lit Drink Nights" are asinine too, so I guess I'll never get on the award committees.
P.S. And I still don't like Pete the Cat either.

Ha! To each their own. I frequently hate the Newberry winning books. What can you do except keep reading?
I almost ALWAYS hate the Newberry and Caldecott books and suspect that most of the kids do too. Betting that this one is going to be nominated by the hipster librarians that run the show these days.

Yep. I really liked Extra Yarn and was hoping that if Klassen was the winner it would be for that. The hat books I am meh on.
I'm glad to see someone else is as opinionated about "This is Not My Hat" as I am. I didn't like it either. My mother is a preschool teacher and it was given to the school as a gift. She and the director found the book "offensive" and banned it from the school library.
Bless you guys. This book and its values are crap.
