I thought this was going to be a short, cheery read before bed. Boy was I wrong.

Rowena I thought her name sounded cheery, plus I heard about her prayer journals so I would never have thought she would be that morbid, lol! Oh well, I've learned my lesson :)

Blumenfeld The title seems very humorous, though. Don't judge a book by its title, I suppose :) I can't wait to read it.

Rowena Indeed! I look forward to your thoughts! It was a quick read.

Stefanie Jamison I made the mistake of reading this before bed too! Three hours later...still awake.

Rowena Oh no, Stefanie:( I hope you managed to go to sleep eventually. This story is sooooo disturbing, haven't felt compelled to read any more O'Connor since.

Thanks for the warning, I've had that one recommended to me!

Michele I'm not sure I get the relevance of the title, though. Anyone want to take a shot at explaining it?

message 11: by Tom (new) - rated it 5 stars

Tom Bensley I think it has to do with (view spoiler)

Rowena Thanks, Tom! That makes sense. I think I'm going to reread this book at some point now that I know what to expect!

Tom Bensley No worries! It's always been my favourite short story, so I love any chance to talk gab about it (:(:

I really enjoyed your review, by the way! I'm going to give Ms. O'Connor another shot:)

Tom Bensley Thank you! I recommend 'Good Country People', 'The Barber' and 'A View of the Woods'. Her novel Wise Blood wasn't as effective for me as her short stories, but it's a decent read as well. Enjoy!

Thanks so much, I've made a note of those:)

Fongang Synthia Huuu! Thanks for making me know, I had wanted to read before going to sleep. Only your comments made me not to. Hahaha

No problem! It was a bit of a shock, I wish I'd been forewarned myself!:D

James Mitchell I know right?

I think I should read more of her stories and expect the unexpected :)
