Shannon They've made a film of it? A Swedish film? Is there a movie of the first book too?

Yes - it was brilliant and ther's a trailer in here -

Maria Elmvang Yup, made by Swedish actors and a Danish instructor. The first one came out earlier this year, and the second one is opening in Denmark this month. There were some difficulties about the cinema rights as originally the two sequels were supposed to go directly to TV/DVD, but I guess the first one became SUCH a success that whoever holds the rights saw logic in sending the two next to the theaters as well.

The first one was brilliantly made, but obviously very, very disturbing. I wouldn't have wanted to watch it if I hadn't read the books and been "warned".

Shannon I haven't seen it around. Non-English films are hard to come by here, sadly. And I guess, if they think no one'll watch it they won't bother giving it English subtitles... You just know Hollywood will want to do its own version at some point. I'd rather see the Swedish/Danish version personally.

Maria Elmvang As big as it's gotten in both Denmark and Sweden I'd say there's a pretty good chance that it'll have English subtitles. Anyway, I'll keep a lookout once the first movie comes out on DVD (if it's not already). If you're able to watch region 2 DVDs I can send you a copy?

Shannon I can watch them on the Mac. The stupid DVD player isn't multi-region (and neither is the telly).

Bettie I found that it doesn't matter if you don't speak swedish, so long as you've got the book under your belt it all unfolds understandably. There is some chemistry in this that could not possibly be reproduced by hollywoodonians - there is a reason why 'wood' is in Hollywood film industry lol

Shannon *laughs*
nice one Bettie!

Laura Bettie, are those films available at mininova or demonoid? I will try to remember my Swedish then...I just got the third book in Portuguese which was already stolen by my husband!!

Hello there Laura - the first film was released on dvd a week or so ago:

The second has only just hit the cinemas so will be a wee while yet. The third film will be out in the cinemas the end of November

Laura great Bettie, but I must read the third volume before November then.
